I hadn't noticed that the new one is even noisier. I might have to delete this thread to stop me looking any more stupid.

Paper dB isn't the be-all and end-all - a really high-pitched fan that puts out 55dB might well be subjectively louder (and a lot more annoying) than a fan that puts out a low-pitched 63dB.

I must say I would recommend getting one of those zalman all in one jobby cpu coolers. they're very effective. (Not the fucking massive one they brought out later, the earlier ones, with lots of copper ribbing, circular thingie*)

I did consider one but I couldn't get hold of an all-copper one, only the 50/50 copper/aluminium one.

Anyhow, I've got a fan controller so I can turn it down a bit. Never thought I'd ever buy one of those, but meh.
