PoE2: Released.
Figured this was worthy of a new thread to keep stuff tidy.
Client download (1.06gb) - Unpassworded version
When you unzip this, you'll see a PoE2-v1.0.0.0.exe and a PoE2-v1.0.0.0-mappack.cab - Use the EXE, the mappack.cab is just there for the installer to feed on, you have to do nothing with it. (the cab will also show as corrupted if you try to open it with the usual apps, this is normal)
Server info:
Name: 5punk.co.uk - PoE2 Server
IP: 217.112.95.67
Port: 16568
Slots: 36 (may change depending on load)
Admins: as on the ranked server (daemon port 4715)
Rules: as on the ranked server - less commander rules, they should be fighting

Had a quick run around on my own, first impressions:
Graphics are lovely, although using my vanilla BF2 settings it was sucking well over 1GB of memory (slightly more than normal).
The maps are very well designed; most have large open areas, with some nice, tight urban areas dotted about. A few maps seem to be infantry only, these have plenty of cover so it shouldn't be too much of a turkey shoot.
There are only two teams to choose from; Ukraine and Germany. I would say the German weapons are much better than Ukraine's. Some (the sniper, and assault) have double zoom levels and the sights on the German G36 weapons are much better. Also, most of the German weapons have optical sights (including support).
Artillery is now requested by using the binos that some of the classes receive; you equip them, spot a point in the distance and radio in the position. I couldn't fully test this as I was on my own, but I guess that the two man howitzer pieces then get this request and can fire on that point.
The vehicles in general seem good, the sounds the tanks and howitzers make is chuffin fantastic.
I did have a quick go in the planes but since I can't fly, and don't spend much time in planes I can't really offer an opinion.
The new choppers seem fairly similar to their vanilla counterparts, except the Hind, this thing is fantastic. It's a two man configuration similar to the attack choppers, however; the pilot gets the standard dumbfire rockets and a machine gun, whilst the gunner gets what seem to be air-to-air missles and TV guided jobs. This, and it can carry quite a few troops, I predict this thing will become a favorite.
All in all I would say if you have Beef, this is a must have download.

I like
Very polished and some interesting new/different stuff. I need to read the manual so I can understand some of this new stuff though. The only bad thing would be that it needs a bit of balancing still but you would expect that. Also I don't think my game has any win, only lose appeared to be working.

Aye, and guess who got the gold medal with a score of 163.Roman Totale wrote:Bloody hell I like this game! The 'feel' of it is great, and I love the maps and weapons too.
Me, Sheriff, Pnut, Gunslinger, Spoodie and Duke of Ted just played an epic round - I'm sure it lasted 2 hours.
Assault rifle ftw
Little bastard.

I really like this game, though the bunny hopping is annoying and I really dislike the Ukraine assault rifle, the German one is so much better.
I think it's the nature of the game (or the mod) that it attracts the 'more seasoned' beef player, and with that comes all the pr0-gamer BS: bunnyhopping, dolphin-diving, 203 spam, etc.
I warned a few for hopping last night and it did seem to get better but it's a part of FPS's now unfortunately.

I've been it situations where i'm sniping a guy, and he just bounces around for 30 seconds.
I killed him anyway.
Not to mention, i can rank top 3 most of the time, doing none of the clan faggotry, just goes to show that skill > sad little exploits.
I guess people didnt like it because theyve all left. Still, I played on another server and it seems pretty good, more intense battles as everyone is concentrating on just 2 flags.Dr. kitteny berk wrote:I've switched the server over to Frontline mode now. This confused me, I wasn't expecting the installer of a mod to be like a proper game installer and I tried to extract the .cab seperately.
