What I need you guys to do for POS defence

Post by Hehulk »

Right, so ages ago Fea asked me to come up with a defence plan for the POS. Did this ages ago but apparently I'm ment to convey a few things to you useless mob ( :P ) so...

1. In the next two weeks I really want to us to do something akin to a big old corp mining op to stockpile a cupcake load of minerals that Silver (or whoever) can turn into defence BSs for storage in W9-.

2. Can everyone work out a fleet fittings BS fit for close range that they feel comfortable with. Usually I'd go for snipers, but we'd struggle to overwhelm a decent capital ship with 3-4 snipers and a load of missile spammers.

Word of advice: Since in that secnario I'm going to be far more interested in dealing damage to capitals than anything else, go for stuff like rage torps, uber damaging t2 close range ammo that fucks your tracking over. Stuff that's going to deal horrible DPS.

Also we wouldn't engage if and when we come under initial assault. We have stupid amounts of strontium for a reason. Engagement would begin when the fleet comes back to finish off the POS as it comes out of reinforcement mode, giving us about a days notice to get ships into position and people online.

In the event of a siege expect me to PM, email, scream, Xfire and whatever to get peoples attention. I know timezones are going to be an issue, and that we have terms under the ISS charter to also scream at ISSN for help so I'd be screaming at Mynas, Lilan, Butter and the other command staff I know reasonably well.

Well, think that's it. Anyone got any problems? Huh?

I fully support the need to store defense ships and equipment for POs defense. However, Helhulk I do not think close range ships should be the primary focus...we have the shield so we shoudl use it when available. No I will be the forst to state that I have NEVER participated in a POS defense operation however based on other knowledge I think longe range setuips would be more recommended if using the shield for defense. In order of importance >

Ravens (t2 rage torps, target painters and BCUs) main damage dealers agasint Captols and Javelin agsint support BSes and smaller ships
Scorpion - To reduce remote armor and shield reping of enemy gangs as well as reducing BS damage output
Tempest - ideally with T2 1400mm
Megathron - T2 425mm rails

Since ships in defense do not require tanking all availble slots shoudl give priority to damage, EW and target painting (in that order of importance) and support roles of smaller ships shoudl refelct this requirement.

Begin a relative novice in POs defense any feedback is welcome...

I'm with Ki on that one. The more damage we can deal the better, if they have enough power to take down the shield, we (the defenders) would be pretty much done for anyway once that happens so I guess smashing them apart as fast as possible would be the way to go :ahoy:

That's part on the reason I favour short range set-ups. Points to note before I go on more though:

You can't lock inside the shield.
I've never participated in a POS siege either. Anything I seem to know is pure theory or conjecture on my part.

Right, that said, Part of my overall theory was to use covert ops to get the fleet a point blank warp in point so everyone with point blank weapons starts dealing damage from the off. Long range set-ups are nice, but with number of well skilled battleship pilots we've got and the fact that POSs don't focus fire I'd be looking for every pilot to deal maximium DPS from his ship. This means blasers, pulses, autocannons and torps.

Once we've got say 15-20 well skilled battleship pilot. I'll happily swap tack and favour the alpha of a fleet to break capital tanks, though that does put ravens at a disadvantage, and since over half our BS pilots are in raven I'd sooner use tactics that cater towards not having to wait for missiles to connect. Those seconds might well count.

Does that setter your worries or do you still have issue with it? (Please, do say. I'd sooner competly scrap my plans because I've missed some vital element of this)

Well one flaw in your plan is that the dreads are likely to be supported by quite a large fleet which would completely pwn us :) We'd have to wait for more support from the likes of ISSN before we tried anything at all.

This is why there's 20 hours of strontium in all the towers (or there will be shortly). And usually the fleet is busy locking down any incomming gates to leave the dreads to deal with the POSs. Dreads might fear POSs a tad for that one in a million moment when all the guns focus fire for 30 seconds and they pop, but BSs get almost instantly spanked by a large POS guns. I've seen shot of POSs hitting for 15,000 to 16,000 damage so painful they are.

Note: That experience comes from -V- fleet tactics when sieging RA in scalding pass. I spent many boring hours camping gates while the dreads killed the POSs.

balls, I forgot about the 'no locking in the shield' thing. Point blank range with the most fuckest upest weapons it is then!
