A word on Beef

Post by Woo Elephant Yeah »

It came to my attention the other night, that some people were "starting" to take this game a bit too seriously.

There is nothing wrong with tactical team based play, and wanting to win.
However I'll say this first to hopefully avoid what I think is going to happen quite soon...

5punk is a friendly gaming community. We are not a clan. Why are we not a clan? Because nobody should take their games so seriously that they start to call one another names, and get angry when a team mate doesn't do something they want them too.

I'm horridly shit at CS:S, and when I first started playing I managed to team kill about 10 players on my side in one match through dodgy nade throwing.

If I did this on a public server, I would be banned and have abuse hurled at me, but instead, as we are 5punk, everyone just laughed at how shit I was, and talked me through the game.

So the point I am trying to get across is take the game semi seriously, but never, I repeat, never have a go at someone because they are shit, or are not doing what you would liek them to do.

5punk has always been about having fun, and lets keep it that way before someone starts to take this all a bit too seriously, and we have a conflict on our hands.

Amen brother.

Some people do get annoyed in beef, but its generally when they get killed in a situation which they expected to come out on top of, and so its not a 5punker they are hurling abuse at (Chicken is great for this  ). In terms of tactical team play, it only works up to a point since we are a herd of cats. However, I agree that just because we have our own server, we should still try to avoid the trappings of a clan.

Although, 5perm anyone? :)

Edit: You spelt "werd" incorrectly in your title WEY, and made no references at all to anyone's mother. It scarcely made any sense!

Apart from our* rage swear-a-thon's at 5punkers on the opposing team who kill you even after you have unloaded a full clip in their general direction

Also I would like to add that BEEF has one of the steepest and longest learning curves of any game I've played, and thus I still do stupid things and ask lots of questions.

I suspect it's not so much us taking it seriously.

but rather the fact beef has an unrivaled ability to give you THE FUCKING RAGE.

mainly because you often get into situations where you *should* be able to win, but often don't because your commander is shit or your squad is on the other side of the map wanking furiously.

once that happens a few times, shouting is inevitable.

I agree that beef can be frustrating but it's not the worst as far as I'm concerned. Maybe you should not assume that beef is realistic, it looks fairly realistic but it plays very arcade-like. If it was too realistic it wouldn't be as fun IMO.

If someone is having a go at me for not playing well I will do one of the following (especially if they are a 5punker):
1. Ignore them.
2. Tell them to STFU or something similar.
3. Do more stupid things on purpose.

I've not really seen anything that'd suggest we're getting all clanny. Occasionally someone'll have a go at a commander, but they're not usually 5punkers. I suppose it could get more serious, especially now we've got a server, so it's a good point to make as a reminder, but I don't think it's a problem at the moment. Is it?

I do quite often find myself having a go at people actually. Only just realised, but it happens at least every third map. Someone will start chucking abuse at other people in the server, ONLY THEY DO IT IN CAPS AND SPELL EVERYTHING WRONG. I can't keep quiet when I see it, and just have to let fly about the importance of spelling and grammar, even in games. 'Slinger will back me up here too I hope. :)

Yeah, I mostly hurl badly spelled abuse at twats who complain about crap. I'll sometimes swear at no on in general due to beef being annoying, but I've never found myself mad at a fellow 5punker. I kinda got a bit annoyed at proalan yesterday when pwned my jet two or three times when I was practicing my flying before the round started, but I asked him to stop and he did, so all was well :)

heh, I am definetly guilty of getting angry with everyone. I agree with berk, a lot of it is caused by the fact that it can be hugely frustrating. One of the things that peturbs me though is people pestering me about what to do when I just set an order as squad leader. I know most of you guys haven't played as much as I have, but some things should be obvious, like the orange line that points to where we should go.

And remember, no matter what I say to you guys, I WILL ALWAAAAAAAYS LOOOOOOOVE YOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUU!

I only follow the orange line if the rest of my squad are. Which means most of the time I don't. I'd rather follow them around and attack a different flag then follow orders all by myself
