A retriever!

***Edit, I need a covetor to be closer to what my BC can do!****
At least until I can work up to a HULK!

As we have a production minded recruit, and I'm mining in Empire so much anyway, I've bought the one skill I lacked for barges, and will complete it in less than a week I thinks.

So I need a COVETOR, and a couple strip miners if anyone has one they've outgrown.

Otherwise I'll go buy one, but thought I'd ask first.

Cheers!

Domi with miner 2s or MDCM2s will outmine a retiever, but a covetor will outmine anything bar a hulk, so I'd say it's a short term vs long term thing.

Yes, after I posted this, I realized the 3 min cycle times and smacked myself, but was too tired to remember to edit post. A covetor would be closer to what my Brute can do with 7 miner II's and a single upgrade brining per laser production to 97 units per minute. I don't know what the retriever would do per cycle with my skills, but the base 540 on strip miners, x2 lasers, /3 for triple the cycle time of the Miner II's ^ ends up with 679 per minute on the BC (not counting drones) compared to 360 per minute base for the Retriever, (drones would have to be defense only) so yeah, the BC wins. (BS gets 102 per cycle per laser, but only 6 lasers, and that's with two upgrades).

So I guess I need a Covetor, which should work out to 540 per minute base, but also can do ice, which will be a nice bonus for all with the POS forest we have growing in space! :)

What covetor are you flying that only mines 540 M3 per minute? Standard covetor fit kicks out the following:

540 (base)
X 1.25 (Mining 5, required)
X 1.25 (Astrogology 5, required)
X 1.15 (Barge 5, required)
X 1.05 (Mining Laser upgrade 1, not required but it fit's so why not)

= 1019 (rounded to the nearest unit).

Since your using 3 lasers, and it's cycle time is 3 mins, that's your M3 per minute too. 540M3 per minute, pfff

I'm afraid he has you there!
Also dont forget the cargo holds on Barges are much better suited to mining than BS's. When I was mining in my BS I had to fire my lasers off at precise timings otherwise my cargo would overfill

This^ But having the ability to survive in more dangerous areas and maneuver faster than a barge were the points I originally looked at with BS uber mining. Not to mention that most of the skills overlapped, so I would also be training for a barge at the same time, but without having to buy one to utilize the skills. So I think I'll get a Covetor when the skills are ready, (just a bit longer than retriever from where I'm at now), then work up to a hulk and modulated deep core strippers.

Mining in a barge is much better for recruiting than in a BS, the small cargo bay is a pain, especially with the mining drones worked in as well.

Thanks for al the info guys! :)
