Hellgate: London

Post by Woo Elephant Yeah »

The original developers of Diablo, have made in their view made a game that's "Diablo, crossed with Half-Life, set in London"

After reading a review in PC Gamer of this game, even though I'm not a huge fan of RPG/MMO games, this does look rather good, and the fusion of FPS with MMONG might attract me.

I doubt I will have the time to play a game like this, but from the sounds of it, the randomisation of level, enemies, item drops, and challenges makes this sound like a really great game you won't get bored of.

So yeah, it looks good, and you can see some screenshots and so on here http://www.hellgatelondon.com/

The trailers and concept art are incredible..
Cant say much for the actual game though.. Looks a bit.. Uh..

'Quake Brown'... Repetetive settings and suchlike. The streets of London will be 'randomly generated' too, so dont expect to go sightseeing.

According to legend, when the ravens depart the Tower of London, it will crumble to rubble and disaster will befall England ...
Good grief :faint:

Despite that cheesy cliché the game does sound quite interesting. I always imagined it to be just another FPS, like Painkiller, but the RPG elements do make it far more appealing. Here's another site which might be useful: http://www.hellgateguru.com/

Hundreds of base weapons that can be modified and ehanced. :likesitall:

Sorry guys, it's a preview in PCG not a review. It's not due out until next year :(

That sounds god-awful. Seriously.

Oh, hooray! Hundreds of generic looking, underpowered, samey weapons! Fantastic!

Indeed. It looks like a cross between Guild Wars and the worst of final-fantasy. One of the screenshots looks like it's outside the palace, though.

No, it's just the "Diablo crossed with HL2!" thing that's a bit reminiscent of Daikaitana, plus it's well to be suspicious of games that show no sign of HUDs of any sort in their "screenshots"

I watched the gameplay trailers and there seemed to be enough information for me. It looks more like a diablo-esque interface with the armor and weapons and whatnot.

This :above: HARD

my 2 reservations are: Cost and instancing

will it be purchase-only, or monthly-subs? This is a big factor for me.

and will it be Eve-like (zero instancing) or GW-like (almost totally instanced)?

I was under the impression that it was a bit like Guild Wars, only even *less* MMO-ish. So there would be comunual areas where you can trade stuff, but the rest of the game is kinda singleplayery.

A bit like Diablo, but with Guild Wars' towns and things.

EDIT: Roffle. Looking through the forum posts on gamespot, trying to determine if im right (I am, its not an MMO, its like Diablo) I noticed a hell of a lot of people getting in a right state because people are calling it an FPS/RPG. "No! Its not a FPS! You cant get headshots!".

It has an (admittedly optional) First Person mode. It has guns. Presumably, you shoot the guns, and can use first person mode to do it. Exactly how is that *not* having FPS elements?

because 12 year olds dont have the brain power to comprehend the idea of a cross genre in and since theres more than 12 people on there it must be an mmo that could be played by hammering your balls on the 1 and 2 keys and sometimes spacebar

I think they're probably pitching at different audiences. I personally would rather play Hellgate than a Phantasy Star game. Also arent they on different platforms?
