PS3 Pricing

Post by FatherJack »

Clearly, I am going to require a PS3, but how much is it going to cost me?

Recently quoted figures of ¥70,000 and $500 currently equate to £325-£350, which isn't actually as much as I expected - I was anticipating £500-£600.

Obviously this may still be, particularly if there are 20GB and 60GB versions available. Actually that's laughable - 60GB is fuck all, my PS2 has a 250GB disk in it and it doesn't even do anything.

I'll take a wild stab at £425, but has anyone heard anything real about UK prices?

all i've heard about the PS3 is that the cell yields are laughable at the moment, not to mention some massive bandwidth issues.

Either way i reckon £499, but wait until we know how broken it is.

The quoted UK price I've seen on various blogs is £450- the lower-spec model possibly not available in europe. That's likely to be without a game, so add £40-50.
No idea which cables it comes with, connecting to telly-wise; research this!
I'd buy a BlueRay movie too, to avoid wasting £200... :)

After reading several sites, all quoting from different sources, the answer seems to be "nobody has a fucking clue".

It's all guesswork and rumours at the moment. I "doubt" if it will go over £400, and I'd "expect" it to be around £300-£350.

Lets just say kids wont be buying them by saving their pocket money

This is what I've been quoted for, from gamestation (60GB version). I preordered with £20, so it should cost about £405 when it comes out for me.

I'm undecided as to whether to buy online or not, with a shop if I get a broken one (likely) I can take it back and <strike>intimidate</strike> persuade them into giving me a new one, online vendors usually replace no questions asked, but I'd guess it's a pain in the scrote to send back.

I've never sent anything back to online shops, so I don't actually know.

I would honestly suggest online - the PS3 is gonna be *MASSIVE* demand.

Any small shops are gonna be out of stock in seconds, and lower on the list than a big outfit to get more stock/replacements.

Returns wise, most places ask you to pay for the postage to get it back to them, but you can usually hassle them into getting their couriers to pick it up at their cost.

honestly I would advise everyone to wait wait wait. The PS3 is still a big question mark in almost every way.

While I am undeniably impulsive when it comes to gaming purchases, the PS3 is currently listed at £550 on Play.com, which is £125 more than I had heard, and more like my original expectations. I hope my previous post didn't encourage them to increase it.

In other news I've pre-ordered Saint's Row and Dead Rising. No, I don't have a 360. :?

With the risk of sounding slighly sensible (pfft. how laughable) I think I'll be waiting to get mine. The pricing at the moment (anywhere between £300 and £600) puts me out of the market, student loans are meant to be used sensibly. The way I see it is that I wait a year, the price has fallen disastrously low and problems have been magically fixed. While I'd love to get one and piss my pants over the new final fantasy lead ladies sweet ass, I think the bank manager screaming at me would screw up my enjoyment a bit.
