after chatting to an old chum who used to live on TFC i was told 'pfft j00 n00bar, get http://www.fortress-forever.com/ ' it will be free, its made by the same team that made the original, which will try to stay true to the original and it doesnt look like XIII. gets my vote anyway

I mentioned it in the other thread, but it's not out yet. I don't know when they plan to release it. I can see how it would appeal to the "TF must always be free!" crowd, and those who don't like the new cartoony style.cashy wrote:get http://www.fortress-forever.com/
I would argue that the new style is more reminiscent of the spirit of the ORIGINAL Quake-based Mod (which I played endlessly), no matter what these TFC-Johnny-come-latelys may think.
I hope they both come out and are good, and don't get obscured by the 'skillz' servers which (for me) eventually ruined TFC.

I loved it in it's original incarnation - the maps had tonnes of secrets you had to activate as a team, a bit like jailbreak, but most of those levels were modified and the secrets lost. By TFC they were on about V4 of most of the maps.Sticky Label wrote:I'm not too sure about TF2 though... never actually played TF1.
It still had it's charm, though, retaining the nine classes it had a class to suit everyone's play style, plus each class could be well counteracted by many others - the bane of Snipers were (as well as other Snipers) Medics, Spies and especially the underplayed Pyros (you try aiming where you're on fire). Spies were totally weak when discovered but instilled paranoia when undetected in an enemy base, Scouts wouldn't last long against a HeavyWeaponsGuy and coudn't do much about an Engineer's turret but there's no-one who could get the flag faster, Demomen could open new paths but exploded horribly when hit with Enigineer's EMP grenades and Soldiers could dish out the damage if they weren't dealt with quickly by Snipers, Medics were generally a pain in the arse as their poison could only be cured by a friendly Medic.
I'm looking foward to TF2 and Portal more than Episode 2 now and I want to pre-download the pre-order module so that I can pre-order and pre-download right now, dammit! Could be up to six months away, though, but I'd guess at longer if they insist on synching with 360 and PS3 release dates.
Nice move on Valve's part wrt the hype machine, QuakeWars and UT2k7 could come out tomorrow and some people might not even notice. The solidification of vapourware this year has been incredible.
