Episode 1 worth the cash?

Post by Nickface »

I just realized I haven't played through this yet, is it worth the $20 (aka. £10.9469075)?

I'd say so. 4-6 hours of play for a tenner isn't bad, and you'll likely want to go through again just to hear the audio commentary.

Compared with the latest full FPS release, Prey which gives you 8-10 hours, it's rather a bargain, although Prey does have limited MP and the price has dropped hard.

There seem to be a million things to released with Ep 2 also - whether that means they will merely become available at the same time, or if Ep 1/2 customers get some sort of bundle or deal remains to be seen.

Not least of these is Portal, which seems a bit to me like the Ep 2 developers seeing Prey and saying "Meh, portals - we can do portals". If it's anything like the Episodic Content comparison between SiN Ep 1 and HL2 Ep 1 it would dump on Prey from altitude.

It's definately worth it if you enjoyed HL2, I reckon. It may be short but there's a lot of great set pieces and lovingly crafted detail.

Did you wank over HL2?, or just 'meh'?

Well, either way I'd still reccommend it, I only just finished it yesterday which shows how much gaming time I have!, I'm all for smaller bits for less money.

I'd only say don't bother if you didn't like HL2

I liked HL2 just fine, as a matter of fact, I played through it twice. I just want to make sure that it's worth getting. I don't it wan't it to be like "Lost Coast" short.

I'd say your average gamer is looking at at least 4 hours play depending on your style, i suspect you'd add an hour by watching all the eastereggs.

that and at least one replay for commentary (i'd suggest doing the comments last, after a game play-through if you're gonna replay)

<HL2>You must buy this now. NOW DAMNIT.</HL2>

but seriously, It's like Half-Life 2, but more focused on you and Alyx going through together, plus it has HDR goodness. Well, OK it's only really cool when you're in the core but still. It's a definite buy in my book.
