No

I installed Microsoft Flight Sim and some 3rd party 3D buildings just so I could fly over London, was dull, was bad at it, uninstalled it. That was 2 hours well spent. :ignore:

If it requires a joystick, them I'm not interested.

If not, and it involves shooting stuff as well as flying, then I'd give it a go if it's free, as I'm not likely to play it down the line.
Wouldn't mind some helicopter training from yourself in BF2 at some point.

I dunno game wise

lock on - modern air combat looks good.

most won't require a joystick, but they're handy.

bf2 flying wise, gimmie a shout whenever and i'll do what i can :)

I've heard MiG Alley is pretty good. Old now, but apparently does dogfighting really well.

Hmm, flying and fighting you say? Does it have to be in the air, or could it be in space? :)

god damn, I loved that game.

in a (slightly) more modern feel, albiet a bit arcady: Crimson Skies.
Yes, its not so "realistic" as others, but god, its good fun.

Pirates in Planes and Airships.

Need I say more?

(there is an x-box version. It looks nicer, but it is inferior in every other way to the original pc version)

Heh, if you'd mentioned flight sims say, 3 years ago, I'd be your man. I played them endlessly until they started catering for the uber geeks who wanted more of a simulation than a game (the rot started with Falcon 4 - full startup procedure took over an hour  )

The ones I enjoyed most for gameplay whilst suspending disbelief enough to make it feel not completey arcadey were EF2000 (not the sequel Typhoon, that was shit), Fighters Anthology, Total Air War and Commanche/Havoc (heli sim). All pretty dated now but there's a living fan base out there that's updated many of them for modern computers. Hell, if you can stomach Falcon 4 and the billions of free, 3rd party addons, it's actually an awesome achievement...but takes a long time to get into.

Recommend something like LOMAC for a more recent but not quite totally heavy weight flight sim (joystick required).

Yeeeears ago I had a space shuttle simulator (fairly sure it came free). It took 6 hours to get the pissing thing to the launch pad. I never bothered trying to get it to take off after that.

FS2004 is quite good.

I mean, .. what can be more satasfying than getting a 747 off the ground in a total thunderstorm?

Or landing it with wheels up.

:)

(p.s - i am back now)

Aces High 2

It's free to download and it's alot of fun, you get 2 weeks free on the main online mode which is like a constant giant island where 4 teams battle for control of upwards of 100 airfields. The dogfight mode is completely free and it is essentially the same except with small maps and about 8 players

MS did do a combat verison of flight sim, might be a bit out of date now. That and FS-whatever are the only games my Dad plays - he's got shit loads of add-ons, including one for jets on aircraft carriers, complete with launch catapult and landing hook as well as lots of WWII aircraft.

I loved that game. Oddly enough it was never actually released, but the pirate version that did the rounds was so prolific it still managed to make it into gaming history.
