Vowlesy needs ideas!

Post by Vowles »

Right Lads(And ladies???),

Ive been working on a web based MMO game following the success of Nova Wars a few months(years??)back and it is coming along great but at the minute... its story/baseless.

I need some themes for the MMO which incorpate the following;

Land Explorering,Building,War,Spells/Upgrades/Research, Peasents,Warriors/Infantry/Planes...Attack chips???.

A simple yet path I wont go down is the old middle ages empire theme.
:) Yet it will be Empire/Corperation/country/Planet based.

:).

So you imaginative people throw your ideas this way!

It should be set against the backdrop of the Galactic RO-BO Empire.

Players aim to either move up through the ranks of the Galactic Terror horse, or get rich going solo whilst trying not to incur the wrath of their fearsome overlords.

Why not combine the best of both worlds and make a futuristic world of magic? That'd be pretty spiffy.

oooh, I know, I know!

I have a whole world thought up for a pen and paper rpg I was making many moons ago. I considered making it into a web based mmo before, then went back to the hacking idea. I would be happy to let you use it as a theme (I would rather it get used in someone elses game than have it sitting mouldering away unused in my brain meats.)

Ive quite a bit of it worked out already (in my head, mind) but its still at the stage of being massively flexible, so anything about it that doesnt quite fit with your game can probably be easily altered to fit. Plus, I would be willing to help with any "flavour" type stuff (bits of story, npc character text, item description or whatever) that you might need.

I'd rather not blab this one out on a public board at the moment, but if you give me a yell over xfire or msn or something, I'll tell you more about it.

What I will tell you is that as far as I know, (and I would be very surprised to be proven wrong) its a pretty original idea. Certainly I cant think of any MMO's, web based or otherwise, that has an even similar theme.

Like I said, grab me on some form of messenger program or send me a PM or something, and I'll go over it with you. And feel free to tell me to jam the idea up my arse if you dont like it :)

EDIT: its kinda close to the nickface's idea, but even *more* unusual. Without just being wierd.

space elves? could be interesting.

the year is 13370, the plannet earth is overpopulated and new earth like plannets have yet to be found that can sustain life without the aid of 'greenhouses', which is of course a very expensive way to build a colonisation (think total recall). one of the main corporations who do this (RO-BO housing), come up with a plan. if they cannot find a plannet with water, they will simply take the unused water from this plannet and dump it on say mars. the biggest stockpile of unused water being the polar ice caps. but while drilling out large sections of ice, a human like creature is found, and OMFG its an elf. he is put in the microwave for 90 seconds (70 on a 800w oven) and tells his tale of the earth eons ago where elven folk used to prance about making faaabulous love with the trees. he then tells of an old elven folklore which states that in a far away galaxy there is a plannet, which holds the very key to life, a way of creating or destroying all material things. of course, as soon as the RO-BO corporation hear of this, they make their way to the new plannet, realising they can destroy any oposition and create new worlds and charge settlers to live there. ultimate power. the polar ice cap expedition is cancelled, and all of RO-BO's efforts turn onto finding the new plannet. only the leader of RO-BO knows of this secret, apart from the miners, as obviously any of their minions who learnt the truth of what they are to fight for would want it for themselves, forcing the leader to venture the last part by himself (omfg end boss XD). only the leader of RO-BO, and the few miners held captive on the polar ice caps of course. these miners must then escape their captors on earth, and battle to the far ends of the galaxy to stop the evil RO-BO.
so basicaly miners= players, RO-BO= NPC's. the player would always be '1 step behind' the ruler of RO-BO, learning of his tracks by friendly NPC's and all RO-BO guards would of been notified to kill the miners on sight as they escaped their capture, making them all the good ol' fasioned bad guys. the miners wouldnt know of the position of the final omega device (is that what this thing would be? iunno) hence making their only way to progress through the game following the trail of the evil lord RO-BO.

theres my attempt anyway. not bad considering it all stemed from the idea of a space elf :)

It's not something I've ever thought about, so no real ideas. I'd be interested in helping with arty bits and things, though.

i like that!
but needs more about their ultimate weapon (sub boss) gunslinger, one of their projects that was a mix of a toaster and fps hax!
corp RO-BO! could be creators of artificial life and this would mean they could create human life without the use of kitchen appliances

there are a lot of cliches out there. it's best to go with something completely out of the box. How about a wild western theme? sombrero wearing mexicans, rootin' tootin' cowboys, and a choc load of jokes from that red dwarf episode. I'm thinking you'd have classes like "brawler", "quickshot", "knife expert", etc..

Implementing something like this without making it obviously a joke would be great. Masses of space pirates fighting an oriental-styled race of powerful but few stealthy peoples would be ace.

Yays. This is how space pirates should look, floating around space in galleons like in Star Fleet.
