WEY's list of 5punky stuff

Post by Woo Elephant Yeah »

1) New version of phpbb forum software.
Okay first off worth mentioning is that phpbb3 is around the corner, and could mean a lot of work (admittedly for Stoat as it's bound to fuck over a lot of our mods)
To check out what phpbb3 will look like, and it's new features such as attachments and so on, check this demo board out:
http://www.phpbbhacks.com/phpbb300/

2) Cash Mod (aka 5perm count) addons.
There are a wide number of these ranging from utilising the mod within our current arcade, to installing mods such as the Rabbitoshi one mentioned elsewhere.
There are also (and this is where I see it being useful) RPG mods that require this system, and I can see this keeping all the bearded 5punkers happy with their XP & Level thingamybobs and so on.
Please, have a look round for anything that uses a cash mod on phpbb, and I will look into it if you think it's a good idea.

3) Redesign of 5punk website.
Yep, I still haven't completed it, but I do know what I want to do now thanks to some of your suggestions, in particular Fatherjack who had some good ideas for layout.
Once again I am struggling on the code side of this, as it would require me making the site in php in order to add the dynamic content I have in mind, but I'm slowly getting there.

4) Last.fm profiles
I'm guessing you all still use last.fm, and if so, I will add this as another entry, the same as all the other custom ones. It's just a case of me finding the time to do it, as I can never remember which files require modding for this. I think I better write it down this time

5) 5punk FAQ
Basically rip out the phpbb faq, and replace it with a 5punk FAQ, detailing Xfire bits and bobs, teamspeak settings, who is dejects mom etc...
The only worry with this is that if I were to remove the sticky's then I'm afraid Noobs won't bother to look in the FAQ.
The other alternative to this is to stick all the details on the main page of the website, so nobody can miss it.

6) Combined 5punker Group page
Unsure what to name it, but one page listing everyone in seperate drop down lists/tables with the info from http://www.5punk.co.uk/phpbb/xfired.php and http://www.5punk.co.uk/phpbb/udead.php etc....
This would mean just one place for a snapshot view of everything custom to 5punk, like the above, and Xfire, Last.fm, b3ta, and would help tidy things up, plus it would be easier to manage just the one page.
There is talk about a "What games I play" page, but Stoat would have to shed light on this because I wouldn't know where to start.

If you have comments/suggestions on any of these, then please reply, even if they are negative ones. Cheers, WEY.

I think the customised 5punk FAQ is a very good idea - it will give people a better feel for the site. Some suggestions to include in it:

Berk - a survival guide
ROBO - how to overcome your fear of living gods
Deject's Mom (werd)

Well the FAQ doesn't necessarily need to be required reading for noobs, like some board nazis on other sites seem to think.

Half of it could be useful information similar to it's current content about getting XFire working, how we started and why we don't want a "scrim". Recommended reading certainly, but not anything to bash people with.

The other half could be reference material, such as Deject's Mom, Aids Cannons and Donkey Pron. Kind of like the b3ta dictionary on the only bit of 4rthur I've ever looked at, explaining ris, wooyay, rolfmayo and stuff. Perhap some wiki-like contribution system, ensuring hilarity and utter chaos and thus exemplifying the 5punk ethos.

Edit: er, Like Roman said, more succinctly.

The sensible option here is to setup a 5punk wiki* - If only for making the content, so we can all edit it and work it into a sensible format, then Wey could stick it up as a static page.

best of both worlds

Makes sense, while its initial construction would require all our brains, an "official" release would require a bit of moderation.

Some things, like what we mean by Floorware and Ham & Cheese might be okay, but others, like their detailed use might be incriminating, I know there are are some links in my posts I would prefer remain partially obfuscated as they are. Or perhaps these areas should be left alone entirely and only revealed on a trust basis.

Hoorays! Good things.

Also, I like the idea of some kind of 5punk-FAQ-wiki-monster. Also; putting things all together in a FAQ doesnt mean you *have* to take them off the stickies. Just means theres one mighty source of knowledge for people to look at if they have no idea where else to go.

Plus, although I agree that the FAQ should not be required reading, it'll be damn useful to be able to just point people in its direction, rather than explaining *again* why we welcome new people with "/me bums", for example.

Seeing as wey normally doesn't appear over the weekend, and i can't be arsed to do much more on it yet.

Please don't vandalise it, otherwise, enjoy :)

edit: add new pages if you need to, but remember it'll likely get condensed down into one static page.

Looks good :likesitall:

Only criticism is that the sheer awesomeness, coolness and general hipness of TEAM RO-BO isn't conveyed enough.
