In my mind, the main problem is that he's obviously lying at some point.

_IF_ there was a concert he had to go to or anything else he had to do, he'd have at least some warning, as such be able to un-sign-up, or post saying he couldn't make it.

however, in this case he doesn't turn up, apparently has computer access, and leaves 4 people who'd put time aside in the lurch for whatever badly thought out excuse he's gonna make up.
