M asked about the overview settings for PvP...here's what I use:

Open up your overview settings window (if you don't know how to, go back and do the tutorial :P )

1. Go to Appearance/Background. Tick the boxes for "Pilot is..."

...in your gang
...in your corp
...in your alliance
...sec status below 0
...sec status below -5
...at war with you

Leave the rest unticked.

2. Change the priority so that Gang, Corp and Alliance are above Sec Status Below 0 and Sec Status Below -5. This way you won't accidentally shoot a friendly with a low sec status.

3. Under 'Colourtag' I like to set the war target icon to flashing so it stands out a bit better.

4. Under Columns, make sure 'tag' is selected and visible on your overview. If you're Fleet Commander (FC) you'll want 'velocity' as well.

5. Filters/States: Untick the following (takes all blue pilots off the overview, thus reducing friendly fire incidents)

Pilot is interactable
Pilot has good standing
Pilot has high standing
Pilot in your alliance, corp and gang

6. Filters/Types: Untick everything other than ships. I sometimes leave stargates on to assist with aligning for fleet warps.

7. Ships Tab: Ship Type only. Untick everything else.

Save the overview settings as 'Fleet Ops'

On your overview now you should only ever see the enemy and the occasional neutral. Sort by Tag (if the FC used them) or Name to prevent the target list jumping around as the range changes. Use CTRL+CLICK to select targets directly on the overview as the FC calls them.

I have various settings saved for 'Scanning and Probing', 'Mining', 'Travelling', 'Ratting' etc. So for example, in travel mode I have warp disruptors, gates and station on, but NPC's off. Makes life a whole lot easier 8)
