Rise of Legends

Post by FatherJack »

Anyone got this? I have a repeatable crash to desktop bug, and wondered if anyone else could see if it happens on their machines.

I have created a save file just prior to the crash:
http://filexoom.com/files/823/help.ZIP

To trigger it:
-Unzip the file to your PC
-Start RoL
-Select Campaign
-Load the save file
The game should be paused with four Heavy Dirigibles selected near the enemy city.
-Without unpausing, select Eject All (SHIFT+E)
-Click the Raid icon which should appear on the purple City
-Unpause

At this point, my game will crash to desktop with no errors.

I have patched to latest version, tried setting processor affinity to a single processor (I have hyper-threading) and removed all trace of StarForce.

I was quite looking forward to this game from screenshots and previews I'd read. Then I got the demo. How can you even play it?

Don't know what you mean, apart from the one problem, I haven't had any issue with it. As for the game itself, it's nothing spectacularly new, but not really offensive, either.

I guess I was expecting something a bit more interesting. From what I'd seen there were people walking around the buildings, bases built into the sides of cliffs, and I wasn't expecting such a rubbishy resource system. Though I did like the giant spider.

I kind of like the simplicity of the resources, juggling wood, gold and especially food I've always found to be a bit of a pain.

It is nothing spectacular though, and even Field Marshall Haig (wrt. Blackadder goes Forth) could complete the first campaign, as his tactics are precisely the same as mine.

I don't fool myself into thinking I'm suddenly getting better at RTS games, it's fairly evident that dumbed-down simplified game mechanics are making them easier for me. To me, this is good, as it usually means I get to level 2 before getting stuck, to people more proficient in the genre, I'd imagine they find it vaguely insulting.

On completing the first campaign, and feeling all self-congratulatory, Giacomo put me firmly in my place: "Even a child could have won that battle"

Any game where you can instantly spawn an entire army* for essentially free, without cheats, is going to be a bit silly really.

I could do this three times in a row, then again five minutes or so later, infinitely.
