Operation Flashpoint

Post by friznit »

There seems to be some interest in this so I'll update my old post. OPF is a bit dated now but still unsurpassed in the tactical FPS genre. There is still a strong mod community and a number of addons have come out over the years that update the sounds, textures, AI and above all the units in game - there are literally of thousands to choose from. Here is a quickstart guide on where to acquire this game and get up to speed with what I consider the 'must have' mods and addons.

1. First off, the game itself - You will need Operation Flashpoint and the required OPF Resistance official addon patched to 1.96). The whole lot can be found at places like this

2. Patch to 1.96

3. Change the target line of the shortcut after the .exe (quicker loading times and a work around for possible BSOD glitch in XP):

Code: Select all

../FlashpointResistance.exe -nomap -nosplash
4. Run Flashpoint Preferences. Click Advanced and under Performance move Geometry to the far right. Under Details Tab move everything to the far right.

5. Run the game for the first time. Set up your player (top right of the intro screen). Check the video options:

Code: Select all

1024 x 768 is fine
Visual Quality to max
View Distance about 2000 is good
Terrain Detail of Normal is fine (can go High but it eats the FPS)
That's it for starters. Now to make it a bit prettier (optional but recommended):

6. Hi Resolution Skies change the whole atmosphere of the game, making it much better.

7. DXDLL Graphics Upgrade includes water reflections and all sorts. A must have.

8. Texture Replacement Pack is a nice to have, but at 131mb is quite a hefty download.

9. Sanctury's Updated Animations Pack is a great mod and highly recommended. Doesn't interfere with Multiplayer if you use it.

10. Finally, JAM 3 is an outstanding weapon mod that adds a great deal of realism to the game.

Now, there are hundreds of mods out there, ranging from pirate ships to the Millenium Falcon, but here are a few of the very best that I think no discerning player should do without:

BAS Helicopters are simply outstanding. Well worth the hefty download (311mb).

Decisive Killing Machines kill things. Decisively. If nothing more, get the Mi-28, RAH-66 and the ViT APC Pack v1.4.

And since I'm British, you can find the Brit unitshere. In fact that's quite a good site for some of the better mods. Have a browse.

Finally, it's worth getting this little gem. It's a Flashpoint multiplayer take on C&C style build-a-base and buy units RTS game. A really good fun way for a team to get stuck into it together. Get all four v1.16A files.

For more, the best places for addons are OFP Info and Got Flashpoint?

If there is sufficient interest I could upload my addons directory to Bukkake, Berk permitting ofc, and that would allow people to download individual files as they need them. This is quite easy to do cos the game tell you which files you are missing when you join a mission. FYI my original post is here

Woo! I'll dust off some of my old coop missions I made, though they may be a bit difficult to revamp now since I've fucked about with the mods so much.

This game always confused me, but I'll give it a go. I think it is one of the games I'm worst at, ever, though.

Played for half hour or so and it'll be awesome if we manage to get 4 or 5 playing at once. Jock's pretty good too 8)

.. I played Single Player and got very frustrated with the lack of "save" etc. but Multi Player is totally brilliant, has a lot of potential for some good laughs.

hold shift and hit minus on the numpad then release and type 'savegame'

Code: Select all

shift - (numpad) savegame
AFAIK the only and most useful cheat in Flashpoint. Lets you save game as many times as you want and makes the later missions in the campaign bearable. Also, the Resistance campaign rocks, given the whole carrying over weapons to the next mission thing.

Still, nothing beats coop online play - we had a wee taster this evening and I hope plenty more to come. Get downloading people! :excited:

Here are some files which might be of use.

Usual stuff - only get one at a time, or you'll just hose yourself, likewise if it's really slow it's likely someone else is downloading, so pause/cancel and try again in 20 minutes or so.
