I've asked this before too, but while we're on the subject - is there a way we can have a 'View unread posts' function? There's 'view unread since last visit', but if I have a page full of new posts and I have to log off at work, or firefox crashes (which it's been doing lately) then I have to trawl the forums to find them. If they just stayed flagged as unread even if I left and came back that would make me very happy.

I think we should add this to the list of things to do in our special secret place.

http://www.phpbbhacks.net is a handy place to visit and find all sorts of phpbb hacks

Isn't that what the 'view posts since last visit' is for? Top right on the main index page.

This is a good point. Have those always been there? I never noticed them. :?

no offence, but I think you have utterly missed the point. If you have to close the browser for whatever reason before you have read all the new posts, then the next time you log in it treats all the posts you havent read last time as old posts. So they dont come up in "view posts since last visit". Because you are, in fact, looking for posts that were made before the last visit, but which you have yet to read. In other words, theres a difference between 'new posts' and 'unread posts'. I also would like the option to highlight these posts in some way.

*wonders if that was a little condesending*

I see what you're saying. I have never seen such a function on any forum though I'm afraid. The way the recent posts works is on last time of visit and therefor, which posts have taken place since then, its not like it tracks the individual posts. I don't think there is any plugin/mod about that will list for each user, which posts they haven't read :(

It's odd, as I know it knows what threads people have read, so you would have thought it possible in theory...

It does, kind of. It looks to see what posts are dated after your last Session, then stores the post IDs in a Session variable (that's why it forgets when you close the browser).

I've found a Mod, so I'll look in to it and let you know how it goes.
