Nintendo DS game recommendations
Hello.
I have just bought one of these, so naturally am looking for some good games to play on it.
I vaguely remember a writeup of a puzzle type game that had innovative use of the hardware - using the mic, wireless and even folding it in half to "make a print" of a coin or something, but I can't find it anywhere. While I'm not normally into puzzle games (as they perplex me utterly, and are subsequently over very quickly when I look up the answers on gamefaqs) any clever use of hardware, or new gaming styles are interesting, as the DS is something I'll take out and show people new to gaming*, as much as just play myself.
I deliberately haven't got a PSP, as it just seems to be mobile PS2 gaming (or maybe PS1.5) - it's the quirky titles that use the hardware ingeniously that interest me.
So any recommendations, or even better, reviews of games would be most welcome. It came with Mario Kart and I won't tell you that I also bought Animal Crossing with it as you will all laugh at me.
* Initial impressions prove the adverts true: everyone wants to touch it.

Ha ha, you bought a Nintendo Dog Shit
/PSP fanboy
In all seriousness, the pacman game thingy looked interesting, as well as a tetris style game where you can throw block up and down between the 2 screens.
I remember the topic you were talking about, and I expect it's in the General section, as I haven't had chance to go through all the historic posts that were originally in consoles, and now need to be moved into the Other Games section.

I shouldn't really have mentioned the PSP, I was just trying to highlight the sort of games I'm interested in which showcase the DS's unusual hardware configuration.
If there was a game I must have on PSP, I'd buy one in a flash. But currently, there isn't.
Edit: I'm starting to think the game was 'Another Code', and I've also heard good things about the Advance Wars title.

Advance wars is....well, its ok, for a bog standard turn based strat gaem. Not exactly showcasing the DS's unusual hardware configuration though. unless you count making a point and click style game work on a handheld. It bored me muchly after about 4 levels though.
My housemate has one, but to be honest I have yet to see a game on it that didnt either make me "meh" or piss myself laughing. And not in a good way.

Yeah that game was Another Code and I wrote about it: here
I've since got Mario Kart DS which is very nice, especially the wifi play which is ace but you will get pwned by foreign types. And I've just noticed Phoenic Wright is now released! Maybe I'll do a review or two when I get around to it. Advanced Wars DS is a great series but I played the original and got bored of it.
Welcome to the strange and wonderful world of NDS
edit: It turns out the DS Mario and Luigi adventure is not as good as the GBA one, which is one of the best games I've played recently and everyone with a GBA/DS should play it.

Thanks, I knew I'd asked the question before. Seems it was lurking in General as WEY suggested.spoodie wrote:Yeah that game was Another Code and I wrote about it: here
Well I guess you tried searching for "another code", not very helpful resultsFatherJack wrote:Thanks, I knew I'd asked the question before. Seems it was lurking in General as WEY suggested.spoodie wrote:Yeah that game was Another Code and I wrote about it: here
As a DS owner myself I can't recommend highly enough Warioware, it pretty much uses the whole thing, both screens, stylus and Microphone. Aside from it being loads of fun to play. Should be pretty cheap now too.
I bought Tiger Woods (apostrophe anyone?) 2005 with my DS (probably cheap now too, or upgrade to 2010 or whatever it's up to now) which makes pretty good use of the stylus and how accurate your 'strokes' are.
Also I got Animal Crossing: Wild World on import just before Christmas last year. Absolutely brilliant for when you have 15 mins to spare. Do a bit of weeding, fishing or bug catching, up to you!
Just three of my faves.
Mario Kart is worth a look too, not exceptional in the way it uses the hardware or anything, but if you've got a mate with a DS and the cartridge you can download the game off his and have a bit of a twosome without needing the game itself (or wires - thank Jebus for Wi-Fi). As a perfect accompaniment I advise plenty of beer (Coors or Carlsberg Export, canned Guinness if you're feeling fruity) and some silverskin pickled onions and cubes of mature cheddar as nibbles. Perfect!
