yays!

(for those being baffled)

my thoughts are to basically aim to build a lot of the common sights in the UK.

crummy old high rise council flats, warehouses, old factory style buildings, terrace houses, council estate style houses (concrete prefab things, all the same) nasty new houses.

all of the things you see day to day going through life in the UK, right now.

none of the futuristic crap, just as we see, day in, day out.

now the difference with this lot is that the buildings etc would need to be workable, so rather than a building being scenery, each and every last part of the building should be accessable, lighting should be appropriate, doors working, etc. etc. *but* stuff like spawn points etc would not need to go in, the aim is to make a large amount of content that can be copied and pasted into maps later on.

though, there *may* be some issues, i'm unsure how much the source engine can sustain like this.

Either way, if anyone fancies trying this. woo!

mapping skill/experience isn't really needed, if you can find your way around the basics of hammer, that's all that's really needed for a start certainly.

WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!

i've finally got most of the crap in this level working (even the bots aren't too retarded)

i think the sewer is pretty borked for bots and hossies just yet, will work on that.

edit: also, this has been sent off to the server provider, so it'll get some proper playtesting

ok, having had playtested the level properly now.

it sucks, so development aborted as far as i'm concerned.

www.hairy-arse.com/raidfinal.rar is as far as i'm taking it, all VMFs etc are in that rar, so if anyone wants a play around, consider it released under a bog standard open source license, do as you wish, but credit me.

To be fair, it doesnt totally suck. I think the general idea is still a good one, but it needs to be bigger, have more routes, and suchlike.

Which does, admitedly, mean starting from scratch. Really.

But it was a good first attempt.
