A suggestion.

Post by Grimmie »

I just thought. We could do with some kind of visual database that allows us to see who has what game. I often find myself wavering from one person to the other on XFire when looking for a gaming partner, and not really knowing who to ask. It'd be handy for asking for quick tips from someone who knows the game better than yourself, and good for spontaneous matches.

Er.. ie..

Yeah! Like that.
But less shit, obviously.

Have you already coded that and taken a screenshot?

Good idea though, even if it's just a thread (sticky?) where people can post the games the have/play. Are the add buttons for xfire profiles?

EDIT: Ahhhh, I see; users listed for games rather than games listed for users. Very clever :)

This is a good idea and if you could make it look like Grimmie's picture it would be even better, but I guess it would have boring straight lines and no colouring over the edges.

Nice idea - I think it would need, also:

Remove Me - for games people have uninstalled, a bit like when joining a 5cheduled game.

Of course it would be hard to decide which games go in the list, and whether it would be worth having a column for "Up for a game" and one for "I have this game" for people looking for tips rather than a match.

Usually people ask for tips in the forums, though - which is good because everyone sees it, but there are times when a bit of a chat on XFire is more useful, I know I've both received and supplied help over XFire before now.

I think complicating it would be pretty bad, something simple that shows who has what game, possibly using colour codes (Like the green and orange admin/mod colours for the forums) instead of adding multiple columns for each person.

I'd use it to see who else had a game like Vampire, for which I dont want to make a big topic about, because there's not much talk for a singleplayer game - Or when I need a speedy revive on urbandead, and cant remember who's still playing that game on a regular basis.

Glad people like the idea.

Hmmmmmm it's a fantastic idea, but I'm not sure how it would work :?

I imagine we could have something like a preview of what games each user in the Xfire List has played, but I wouldn't have a clue how you could sort all that data into a games list.

Brilliant suggestion, just really unsure how we could actually implement it

Surely it could just be a larger more involved version of a schedualed game? A few of us could help come up with the games and extra icons if need be, and then have join/leave (or have/floorware/uninstalled/dont have) buttons next to each row?

^this again.

Code-wise, it could just be a mildly fettled version of the 5cheduler, only with the timer thing removed. Shouldnt be that hard to set up, surely?

It shouldn't but I bet it somehow will be!
However, this is vaguely what I was picturing too.

Yep, reasonably peasy to do.
It's been added to the list, but keep discussing it between yourselves so you can agree on what you want... :)
