I tried to play FF7 on the PC but couldn't get on with it, I think the FF series are part of the Japanese culture that just doesn't appeal to me, too nice.

I found XI pretty horrid as an MMONG. The combat system was awful, the only reason I kept the suscription for so long was because they did nasty things (like make you buy a whole new copy of the game, seriously) if it lapsed.

imo all FF games are epic. the best rpg's around. FF7 was amazing, FF8 was even better, FF9 was ok, but too simple as you said, FF10 was amazing with incredible cut scene graphics for a console, ffX-2 was ok, but the combat system was annoying at times. FF11 is supposed to be pretty bad as an MMONG, but im constantly checking ff forums for new when FFXII is released. havnt seen much on it, but the screenies look amazing.

Amazon reckons Aug 1st, but its pants could conceivably be on fire.

Console RPGs hold less than zero interest for me. I have interest in avoiding them. The only FPS games I've played are Deus Ex, Dungeon Siege 1 & 2, and Knights of the Old Republic. Deus Ex is more of a half RPG/half FPS, the first Dungeon Siege was only barely considered an RPG, and KoTOR had awesome visuals and fricking lightsabers. Console RPGs in my experience are all crap. Now I have not see FF7, so don't think I'm lumping that in with the rest, but most of these suck ass.

I enjoyed the SNES Final Fantasy Games more than the later generations. Final Fantasy 6 was in all, and still is, the best console RPG I have ever played. 7 was good, but really, I don't get all rabidly fanboy about it as some people (OMFG ADVENT CHILDREN! I'M GOING TO GO READ SOME CLOUD/SEPHIROTH SLASH NOW!11!1!, etc). I also have to say out of all the later ones (PS1 and up), FF9 has been my favorite, because it borrowed elements from many other games (and it wasn't FF8!)

I've completed every FF game I sat down to play besides 8 and 10, even really bad ones like Mystic quest *shudder*

I've been playing FFXI for 2 years now, and the combat system is nice once you get used to it. And you don't need to buy a new game if you cancel. As long as you have your reg codes that were in the back of the book you can start back up anytime. I do believe if you've been canceled for more then 3 months your char bites the dust. Most people subscribe for a day and cancel just to keep it. They also had a "Come Back" program where they would bring your char back no matter how long you've left it sit. And with the new expansion comming out next month things are looking up for FFXI.

I've also played every FF game for every system (including jp imports, I'm a SE nut), except the one on GC. VII is my fav, X gets 2nd best imho though I know alot disagree. I think it was the graphics that sold me on that one, and the story was good too. If you don't like hours of cutscenes don't play a SE game. (Xenogears anyone... one of the best Squaresoft games ever, too bad the sequals sucked.) X-2 is the reason why square should never make a sequal to a game (unless you like fan-service).... which reminds me I still need to finish that. Hehe.

As for the OP, I'm not sure the date, but I found a bittorrent of the opening of the game. And it looks sweet. It's still in jp so I don't understand most of the words but the graphics look better then ever. If you want I can give you the link to the torrent so you can see it for yourself.

lucky 7's FTW!

And if I remember rightly, you need 2 of your characters to be dead when entering the fight, then bring them back (Using the Pheonix) and everyone goes apeshit!

I think
