counterstrike source. (or cod2)

guildwars won't last as long, and doesn't have the 5punk following that CS:S does.

As they are completely different games it depends what kind you like most I guess. My vote would be CSS but Battlefield 2 would be a better purchase these days.

I'm torn between COD2 and Beef2 myself, and as a consequence have bought neither. I'm under the impression that Beef is less like CS:S than COD2 and would therefore be the more varied option to add to my collection. Is this a correct assumption?

yes.
This. I just like to whore CoD 2 a lot because it's usually a good laugh when all of us play. BEEF2 is a more varied game, but it often gives me the rage too.

CS:S, however I am utterly shit at it, and I think the game is too slow (which is partially why I'm going off COD2, and reverting back to COD:UO on some nights)
