Forgot to say, I don't ask for confirmation on crit, it's a crit hit, not a crit chance. This does of course mean that you guys will give more and get critted more too, well if my rolls don't get any better you won't but you should get critted more often.
Your final slice cuts through his neck like butter, deflects from the bevor and sends the blade down through his chest and stomach, you split him in two, armour, belt and cloak included. His nerveless hands let the scythe fall. It's black blade clangs on the floor with a strangely sonorous sounds, like a distant bell. The high priest smiles and applauds.
Joose - gather information and knowledge local if you've got them. If not, ask someone as you know there are a few drinking establishments and other areas that are likely useful, including the queues of people leaving the pits, but you're not entirely sure where that is as you've avoided this part of the city as much as possible since arriving.
Grimmie - Xanuin doesn't know the way properly either and he is now stood alone in the street with groups of people looking at him.

He gestures at the other priests and then the bodyEalhfring wrote:Well done brother, you have bested our youngest executioner in combat in the presence of our eternal father, truly you are favoured by our dark father!
He turns back to you, points at the scythe on the floor and saysEalhfring wrote:Dispose of the shell, he travels to our father to be tormented for his weakness, but his suffering of life is over, rejoice him and pity him. More importantly brothers heed the lesson well, your faith and status will be tested from all quarters. Fail and you fail our god.
He turns to the congregation and begins to chant again as some of the other priests drag the bloody corpse in its ruined armour across the floor and throw it through a hatch, you hear faint gibbering howls from below as they do. The room begins to cool again, your breath hangs in the frigid air as does the steam from your wound as your blood leaks down your armour.Ealhfring wrote:Your martial prowess is good brother, continue to train and no doubt one day you will earn one of those, it may even be that very scythe.

Uh, huh... I suppose Xanuin will ask somebody who doesn't look too peasant-like for directions then?

I'll start off making out that I am a pit fight aficionado visiting the city and want to find similarly minded people for drinks and chat. If that fails to get me a pub to go to I will try just chatting with them about it. Which means bluff times!

Grimmie, Xan is feeling as though everyone around him is likely to help... usual gamut of spot/search/listen.
Joose - ludicrous display last night is where its at! You get directions and a couple of tips from a few groups of shady/drunk types. The common denominator seems to be the oxpit tavern, it's right next to the pit and forms part of the overlooking terrace, you can have a drink, watch a fight, have a fight and many other pleasures.

Grimmie, rolls please.
Joose, you head roughly towards the docks with the instructions one of the groups gave you, soon you see a looming stack of buildings and start to pick up the occasional roar and cheers carried on the wind. Spot and listen checks please.
FJ - The room is as cold as a cave in the great glacier, blood has frozen in bright spots on the frosted slabs on the ground and steam rises from your wounds and your bare skin as you relax from your murderous exertions as the numbness seeps in with the bitter air. Ealhfring is down on one knee, strain showing in his face and a low moaning sound can be heard from the dessicated mouth of the old high priest, this is not at all how the rituals should play out and the congregation are nearly unconscious from the wild energies flowing around the room.

Re: Pete's evil DnD adventure #1 Lamb of a Dark God
Grimmie - A swarthy type approaches with a leering wink, he's got a swagger, a gold tooth and quite a few partially concealed weapons. His friends are of a similar constitution.
FJ - from an RP perspective you can use your bag of furry things to heal. You have a degree of disdain for healing apparatus as they betray your dark lord, but you recognize that inevitably all the healing wands and unguents will not stave off his inevitable triumph. In terms of your religion roll, you know this is wrong on so many levels, primarily that your time in the city has seen you take part in this every night since finding the temple. Arcana, spells? what? Spellcraft, what's happening in this room is all kinds of wild and magical, but you know the source is divine in its origin. Your spot shows you the disguised temple guard in the alcoves behind curtains, bewilderment on their faces.
Joose - The oxpit looms above as you approach it, pennants of fabric ripple in the wind, depicting a severed ox head dripping blood in to a sandy arena, light floods from the windows and the many lamps outside, a dense throng of characters around you discuss the latest star in the pits, a huge gnoll fighter that fucked some kind of spider squid to death before passing out. Plenty of ribald chit chat and jokes about purple great axes abound. Other groups are discussing the wagers placed on the fight, seems a large amount of money has been lost by a character by the name of Gotho, who had bet a small fortune on the spider squid. The front door is wide open and heat spills out on to the street, along with the roaring of the crowd and the smell and smoke of a great number of intoxicants. Huge bouncers control the unruly that stray too close whilst a slim figure in a cloak watches from a sort of pulpit next to the door that raises them above the crowd.
You can hear his 'friends' sniggering behind him, but you still feel like he's wanting to help you.Swarthy Type wrote:Hello good sirrah, you look like a wrong sort to be walking these streets wot are filled with vagabonds and ruffians, hows about my friends and I escort youse to your destination for a small fee?

Re: Pete's evil DnD adventure #1 Lamb of a Dark God
Why do I feel that he wants to help me? He looks like a commoner to me.
Sense motive
17+3 = 20
Do I think he's being genuine, looking for a few coins for his trouble, or that he's gonna rob me blind at the first opportunity?

Your crap roll was doing all the work there. He tanked his bluff (dice rolls poor again) against your new roll. He's up to no good. He's a fair bit of the middle option, and some of the third option. Depending upon how you handle him you feel fairly confident he'll actually deliver you unscathed with the right amount of money, but show him too much and he might just decide you're a toff who could suffer a red smile in his neck for the weight of his purse.

FJ - The cold in the room is now so frigid that it's caused the faithful and quite a few of the priests to fall unconscious. Breathing the air in is like having icy daggers plunged in to your throat and chest. Can I get a Fortitude save please. All the while the moaning continues from the old high priest and Ealhfring has now added his own discordant wail to the mix.
Joose - wat do?
Grimmie - wat do?
Bits - you're still unconscious waiting on getting healed up by the priests.

I used up all my ideas of what to look for in the last post and didn't seem to roll well enough to know what was going on. What's the difference between what's happening being magical or divine in nature in a practical sense? What was supposed to happen? Can I like, just leave?

Xanuin reckons that in the absence of his smart manservant, this vagabond will have to serve as his muscle for a while instead. At least till they reach the pits. He keeps his distance, but leans in with a slightly hushed voice, as though he made to speak directly to the man instead of to his rabble too.
Using his Alacritous Cogitation, Xanuin smartly incorporates an un-prepared Charm Person into his speech.

*Crosses fingers*My good friend, as we say in my mother-tongue, Pro-stag-ma!
Or as you say in the common tongue, lead on! I'll accept your offer to escort me to The Pits. We can sort out payment when we get there, can we not? I'm sure you're perfectly capable of taking me there by yourself, no need to draw attention by bringing all your comrades along with us.

FJ - if only you'd asked sooner! You unfortunately failed your roll and Noli is feeling weak, light headed and is bent over with horrific cramps and pain, he can barely stand let alone leave. It's not from the fighting.
So it's tricky to define exactly why you know its different so some background and a few pointers to help. Magic in its arcane form if from the world and most spells are about manipulating that horse in some way. Divine spells are granted from the deity through the strength of faith of the person receiving the boon, prayer, eligious icon use etc and is received external to the arcane magic horses. In terms of telling the difference things like auras from divine casting but not arcane, the verbal and physical requirement from arcane spells aren't generally needed for divine so people actions are different, the types of spells are different, the feel you get in your wiggly fingers and your general I've seen that before and know the effects are arcane/divine because of it. Does that help?
4th Ed introduced the idea of the Primal Power source for defining powers for druids, barbarians and rangers etc to help clarify the blurring between the different caster types that the iterations and expansions had caused. Quite a good idea, not very well executed.
