2014 Nominations: MP GotY

Post by Dog Pants »

Welcome to the nominations thread for the 5punk Multiplayer Game of the Year. This is where our effervescent socialites should petition for their favourite game from this year which can be played with others. The award is for videogames, but maybe if there's interest we could poll for board games and/or RPGs. Not that game you played with the bald bloke in the pub after that lock-in though, that's disgusting and nobody is going to vote for it. Please post your nominations below, a poll will be taken in the New Year to determine the winner.

Does Hexcells count? I mean, technically its a single player game, but we are very much playing it multiplayer here.

Why not, it's certainly generating competitive play. I don't think there's a new entry for this award otherwise, so fill your boots. I'm going to nominate Dota 2, but I'm confident at least two more games are going to be nominated, and I know which one of those I hope will win (even though I've struggled to really get into it).

Gonna have to be payday, has rather dragged me (and wifey) kicking and screaming into late night fail missions. :)

I have to say, Overkill have done an outstanding job supporting Payday 2, churning out events and free or cheap DLC regularly to keep the game fresh.

Titanfall! Even though it's just me and Anery that have it and we never played it together.

Divinity: Original Sin. A two player game, so the absolute bare minimum to qualify for multiplayer, but me and grimmie had such a rad time tactically exploding goblins.

brought in a bunch of new in jokes too, so I apologise in advance if we're at a bash and me and grimmie start laughing from clapping slowly three times or just saying "bicky boom"

From the little I've managed to be in front of my pc this year I've enjoyed payday, chiv and more recently gauntlet and divinity original sin.

None of Payday, Chiv, DOTA or Planetside were released this year, so I'm struggling to think of something - they are certainly all contenders for 5punky games as they're what we've played most. That's why I wondered if Chiv crypt mode counted (in the wrong thread).

Does it matter if it was released this year?

I suppose not, I was just trying to think of one. I think Insurgency was this year, but I wouldn't vote for that.

It's differentiated from the 5punkiest game by being the best, rather than the silliest.

Elite: Dangerous? I mean, I don't think any of us have actually met in MP, and it hasn't been out long enough to decide if it's good or just novel, but I'm throwing it out there.

Way too soon to tell even from what I hear from people who have played a lot and the pvp fights seem to be the weak link at the moment. I haven't met anyone yet - unless you were parked in that hangar in the tutorial - in which case, sorry.
