W7 slipstreaming

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

W7 slipstreaming

Post by Dr. kitteny berk »

Anyone played with slipstreaming W7 to any useful degree? I feel like it's worth a play as I'm gonna have to rebuild 2 machines next week.

ISTR I used NTLite with some success when making a 'final build' version of XP with all patches for when they discontinued support and I think it supports newer Windows versions now.

I remember building some utterly obscene winXP copies back when you had to reinstall windows every 2 months to stop it being shite.

Looks like new nlite lives at http://www.ntlite.com/ so I might have a play with that while my new W7 dvd downloads itself. :)

I found nlite to be a bit of a bitch narf and dumped adverts in the build. I wrote a Python script to do the patches and drivers and an autounattend file to do the rest. If I can get into my work PC from France I can give you a copy. Otherwise when next week?

I use this to haul down the patches
http://www.windowsupdatesdownloader.com

In the advanced setting tell it not to keep the folder structure so you dont need to move between them. Don't bother with software here, just patches.

Do the bit I mentioned up there then skip to the 'Patch that image' section and carry on from there.

That looks a bit better than the half arsed autopatcher and hope method I'd gone for. :)

Alas, I can't do a full unattended due to odd drive situations, so I'm having to avoid that (though I'm trying to do the rest).

Unfortunately we're away to my parent's until after boxing day now, so not all that much playtime. :(
