OK, here's something I came up with real quick. Please, tear it apart ruthlessly with criticism:

I can try some different styles, if necessary.

I was gonna comment on this sooner but then I forgot, so here are my thoughts.

Personally I don't think this suits what we're going for, I assume we're going for a more playful approach so perhaps we could do with something a bit ...sillier? If that makes sense? Now don't get me wrong, it's by no means bad but I wouldn't use it as music in our videos, maybe some others need to speak their brains about this as I'm not much of an audiophile. I really appreciate you doing this so by all means, and I do mean by all means experiment away since no one else is stepping up for this part.

Also, Grimmie mentioned he'd like to do a sniper elite co-op playthrough, and I noticed they're bringing out a zombie campaign for four players (as is now custom with games), including the option to buy a four pack. Would anyone be interested in buying this and in doing the playthrough with me? It's pretty reasonably priced.

Fair criticism! When I have more time I'll see if I can make it more whimsical and shit.

Something catchy and memorable would be good to give a hook to the videos. I initially thought maybe the sound of an infinite number of pissed-up monkeys herding cats driving clown cars down a flight of stairs, but maybe that's a bit too subtle.

More seriously though, the videos aren't necessarily supposed to be comical. I like the music Grimmie used and it was going around my head for a few days afterwards, but it'd be much better to have something of our own, and also something which fits the length of the title, although there is a lot to be said for tunes which fade out just as they're getting good only to reprise in the outro, as they tie everything together and this method seems to make them more memorable.

Some kind of theme tune, which could be messed with and remixed into loops for low-level background music, with the hook being used at a higher volume for wipes would be really useful. I plan to use in-game sounds, but will probably want to turn off the in-game music so I can cut the footage together without worrying about it.

Dare I say it but a short loop similar to Mintchiplol's intro works. Every now and again I get it stuck in my head and it reminds me to check YouTube for new stuffs.

Fuck, I've just realised I'm Pavlov's dog...

Just to throw a dissenting opinion in here - I don't care for intros. Just get on with the thing I want to watch :P A good outro I'm all for though, some funny caption like birgirpall or some music. The best outro ever:

He usually does the abrupt stop at the end with always cracks me up and I always listen to the music. If you can pull that off with "5punk.co.uk" emblazoned across the video people will remember us.

I've just spent a few minutes on http://incompetech.com/ listening to "free" music. Here's a couple I liked:

Amazing Plan (I may have heard this on other videos, which is why it sounds appropriate to me)
Spazzmatica Polka (This has "spaz" in the title)

May be an option.

I think we need something bleepity blop that Grimmie chose, but is instantly recognisable and consistent in all our videos.

I like that spazz polka. Bleepy bloopy and slightly silly. Not sure about having it for the intro, but it might work well for an outro.

I might have a play around with it, and see if I can make it into something which stops suddenly, fitting to a short intro.

Anyone got direct access to the video?

I know Tomska and co (from the YouTubes) use Spazmatica polka quite a bit.

Scratch that then, can't be stepping on toes. Good tune though.

I'm thinking a little chippy tune with similar hooks to the intro that can fade in and out on any scene change or quiet bit, something like an up-tempo to help drive forward.

I have all of these as separate files, if anyone wants a scan through to listen out for something suitable.

I suppose I'm surprised it'd already been used for a similar purpose. I did only have a quick listen to about 20 odd tunes on one site. I like the idea of something light hearted though.

I took a few minutes to throw together a couple other ideas. These are definitely more energetic, DnB-esque tracks.

Unfortunately, I can't do anything very chiptune-y, as I'm not equipped with a midi controller nor the skills to use one. If these aren't really what we're looking for, then I'll call it quits.

I like the first one, more now I've heard it a few times, it's not insanely catchy but I like the voices used and the style.

If you do fancy a go at some chiptune-style stuff sometime, I have a bunch of VST plugins which emulate pretty much every sound chip in consoles since ever, including YMCK's Magical 8-bit Plugin which does a propersplendid job of making GameBoy noises.

I should point out at this juncture that I have no real musical abilities at all. :)

Me neither, mate. I just push buttons and click OK when it sounds better than it did before I pushed the buttons. I don't let it stop me though.

I am technically proficient with music tools and to a degree music science, but while I know a good tune when I hear one am artistically incapable of producing one myself. It frustrates me a little, as music has always been something I really wanted to be good at.

I don't buy the argument that people are wholly split into two camps - the creative and the technical. Arty types can simply learn how to do technical things, and technical people just need to find the medium in which they can express themselves.

I'm good at writing - crafting stories and describing things in a creative way. Painting a picture in the mind in a few lines of dialogue or text, getting the point, or joke across in a one-liner. I think even in this though, my technical brain is still working overtime - is the metre right? did I nail the cadence? how are people reacting? While what I write is not formulaic, there are almost-instictive, yet taught/learned practices which I subconsciously employ when penning.

Maybe art is a science that I haven't fully understood yet, while some people intrinsically get it, and perhaps my thinking like that is an anathema to true creativity. However, I refuse to accept that however technical and practical I am that I am not creative, nor that my ideas have any less validity than someone who has gifts which enable them to express their ideas more lucidly.

The only problem is my lack of ability to express my ideas in music or in pictures as vividly as they appear in my head.
