New Forum, bear with us ... (bug reports, etc)

Re: New Forum, bear with us ... (bug reports, etc)
Ahh. I've had issues with it logging me out, or displaying a different user (you're still logged on with your account) or taking me to the forum whenever you log in. It must be a bug with the plugin which links the WP and PHPBB user databases. That thing's fucking weird and took me ages to set up. I might have got something a bit wrong or it might just be a bit shonky. Honestly, I was just glad I didn't break the entire site when I put it in. The fact that it works most of the time is a huge bonus.

I've been getting it when trying to get on the Scheduler, just keeps asking me to log in again after it has "successfully logged me out".

And I'm never logged in on the WP frontpage, always asking for username and password. I'm still happy that it loads faster though.

Seconding the logging out once clicking on the 5cheduler, but good stuff so far Tandy! Let me know if you want a second pair of eyes!
Re: New Forum, bear with us ... (bug reports, etc)
I wonder if it's a permission thing, that the default contributor level doesn't let you create events (it should) so it's binning people out. The link leads to the dashboard.
Re: New Forum, bear with us ... (bug reports, etc)
Very odd. it works fine for me on my home computer but I get logged out on my work computer. Only variable I can think of is that I'm always logged in to the WordPress back end at home, but have never logged into it from this machine.Dog Pants wrote:I wonder if it's a permission thing, that the default contributor level doesn't let you create events (it should) so it's binning people out. [edit]
Folks, if you log in on the front page, do you get forwarded to the forum (and stay logged in). What if you log into the forum and then go to one of the other pages like About? Same issue?

Tandy, just tried that (logging in on forum, going to about page) and it logged me in as you. Also tried logging out of the forum, then clicking through to about, logged me in as you again so my suspicion is that you've hard coded your credentials at some point?

Re: New Forum, bear with us ... (bug reports, etc)
I've just tried a couple of different scenarios. Not sure how helpful they will be. Shits fucked:
Logged in to forum as normal, went to front page. I appear to be logged in to front page as Tezz. Logged out of front page (as Tezz) and it took me to the forum with me logged out. Went back to the front page without logging in to anything and I am once again Tezz. Went back to the forum to log back in, everything seems fine, except when I go back to the front page I am still Tezz.
As the last person to try to log in before Tezz seems to have been Tandy, then the last person before me seems to have been Tezz, I wonder if there is some sort of caching going on.
As a much less worrying side issue: The avatar image when you are logged in to the front page doesn't resize properly. I only mention this because it makes Tezzes avatar look vaguely pornographic.

I just did it (sign in on forum, then poke about)on a clean browser with no issues.
Is the caching stuff still on on the FP/wordpress side of things? Could be that causing issues.

Re: New Forum, bear with us ... (bug reports, etc)
Interesting additional wierdness: If I log in to the forum as myself, then go to the front page where it thinks I am Tezz and actually try and do anything (edit profile, leave a comment) it takes me to the forums "You have been logged out" page. I have indeed then been logged out of the forum, but it still thinks I am Tezz when I go to the front page.

Its possibly worth noting that when I went to the front page from my work computer yesterday lunchtime it knew who I was just fine.Dr. kitteny berk wrote:I just did it (sign in on forum, then poke about)on a clean browser with no issues.

Reminds me of the TV show "Catchphrase" when the slightly crude odd catchphrase would appear.Joose wrote:As a much less worrying side issue: The avatar image when you are logged in to the front page doesn't resize properly. Re: New Forum, bear with us ... (bug reports, etc)
Incidentally, my experimenting has shown that you aren't logged on as someone else, it's just showing their display name etc. You can't access their profile, use their permissions or post as them.
Re: New Forum, bear with us ... (bug reports, etc)
yeah, it strikes me as a mainly cosmetic issue, but obviously the being logged out all the time thing is a pain in the arse. I'll look into it tonight. As far as whether there's any caching plugins enabled, I believe there was at one time, but it's disabled in the WordPress dashboard. There are a couple of odd errors showing in Chrome inspector. One comes from a plugin I have installed, but tone is relating to a JavaScript file that can't be found. I also wonder if it's a deeper issue with either the PHPBB to WP bridging module or the login with ajax one. I'll continue investigating all the same.Dog Pants wrote:Incidentally, my experimenting has shown that you aren't logged on as someone else, it's just showing their display name etc. You can't access their profile, use their permissions or post as them.
As an aside, it seems like we're not the only ones having issues with the PHPBB WP bridge - Angry rants across the internets.

nsfw btw
Re: New Forum, bear with us ... (bug reports, etc)
Harsh. It does work even if it's a bit wobbly. The fact they're so upset would indicate they haven't designed anything better themselves.tandino wrote:As an aside, it seems like we're not the only ones having issues with the PHPBB WP bridge - Angry rants across the internets.
Re: New Forum, bear with us ... (bug reports, etc)
Right oh! I've set up a testing environment on my web space to look at better integration with the WordPresses and the PHPBBs and I'll post the address details in the Waugh shortly. What would be great is if you get 10 mins spare, you could pop over and do some things for me - details are in the testing area.
Basically I've set up a WordPress install and a PHPBB install and linked the two together with a better (IMHO) WordPress plugin and PHPBB Mod. Obviously I don't want to fuck things up here, so the more testing I can do under differing circumstances the better it'll be for all of us in the long run. So yeah, pop over and try and break some stuff.

Re: New Forum, bear with us ... (bug reports, etc)
Will do. I visit on various different devices during the day so I'll keep dipping in.
I noticed this morning that the 5cheduler is now showing past events as blocks rather than just listing them. Might be a result of an update, and I've had a quick look to see if there's an option to change it (and nearly broke something due to fat fingers and iPad) but can't see anything. Not a biggie but it shoves upcoming events halfway down the page.

Re: New Forum, bear with us ... (bug reports, etc)
I'll probably start rolling out the second batch of tweaks to WordPress and PHPBB today/tonight/tomorrow folks. I don't imagine weirdness will be a thing, but if weirdness does present itself then that'll be why! I'm going to go ahead and declare last week's testing a success I think, but if anybody wants to procrastinate a bit today, feel free to try and break some stuff.

DH are doing upgrades around the 28th so expect slowness/outages.
http://www.dreamhoststatus.com/2014/04/ ... pril-28th/
Performance-wise it prob won't do much as SQL is our main bottleneck, although that was already upgraded a while back. Should help with some issues though.
