the freezer trick can in theory work for a few minutes, long enough to rescue any absolutely essential data.

won't work for 70gb of porn, the drive will heat up too much during the transfering.

they'll probably teach it during your gcses

I thought it was more cooling the circuitry that has become extremely sensitive to heat.

I think it's because circuits work better in the cold. Better conductivity and such. That's why you can get better performance out of a CPU with a better heatsink.
