Planetside free for a year

Post by spoodie »

Any tried this game? I like the idea of a sci-fi MMO and my RF Online beta trial has not come through yet.

You know their desperate to salvage a game when they start doing shit like that.

I've played it. I've payed for it, I've got bored with it. Serously, wait 4 more weeks (best guess based on well informed sources) for RF Online. That's gona outstrip planetside so many times it won't even be funny.

I played it when it first came out. Friz did too. It was fun for a week or so...

Picked it up again recently when I got back into Everquest 2 and got an all access pass.
Played it for about an hour before I chucked it.
It's a really cool idea in principle but the execution just sucks.

Still, free's free.

*Casts thread revival*

There seems to be a bit of interest in this now. Anyone fancy giving it a shot at some point to see how aweful it is, even with 5punkers?

Free to a point. you can progress as far as BR8 (battle rank, and current cap afaik is 24) and CR2 (command rank, and cap is 5). This does mean your somewhat limited as far as equipment choice etc go as you can hit BR8 in a week of semi-active playing easily.

I was just reading the planetside forums, hence how I know this

Sweet :) I'll go restore my account. Don't mind spend £6 for the sake of having a laugh.

I shouldn't think my interest will go beyond whatever those ranks mean so that's all good. :likesitall:

Fucking hell there are no names left. I was reduced to putting in random names. ErichZeit is already taken, did you know? As is ShubNiggurath. I settled for ZadokAllen.

The key to enjoying this game, is to pick a specialisation that you're really comfortable with - you don't have to be some grunt on the ground getting killed every five seconds.

I had a character who was a dedicated Galaxy pilot. My life consisted mostly of flying squads out to their designated target, dropping them on a tower, or the nearest safe-spot, and then I'd usually try and hide the ship in a clearing, surrounding it with turrets - or fly around the base at high-altitude and advise the men on the ground of the tactical situation. It's very cool once you start treating it like a real military operation.

Are we going to pick a side and server for this? I'd love to give it a trial run tonight at some point.

I've got a New Conglomerate charter on Werner I wouldn't mind using, if no-one has any objections to be on that side?

Bearing in mind I've never played this before, how long might it take me to be able to fly? Flying anything's good with me, bomber or transport preffereable. Will this even be possible at all with the restricted account?

From what I remember last time I played, they streamlined the skill purchase system into groups, like Air Superiority for all air vehicles and so on.

You should be able to buy your first specialty just from completing the tutorial alone.
