Weapons & other items

Post by Woo Elephant Yeah »

Where's the best place to find a gun?
I assume I can use one being a fireman?

I have pistol clips, loads of shotgun shells, but no god damn guns
Also, wtf can I do with this lot? :

Fire Axe (I have, and will be, killing people with this all the time)
4 x Shotgun Shell (Obviously I need a shotgun)
Portable Generator (Not much use for anything I need to do)
Crowbar (Pretty much pointless weapon in comparison to an Axe)
2 x Pair Of Wirecutters (Never "ever" had to use them)
Bottle Of Beer (Does this regain my health, or make me fall over)
2 x News Paper (ermmm "Zombies invade the City Of Malton". "One man with a chunk missing from his head reportedly said Mrrrrnnnnnggghh")
2 x Book (Does this increase my intelligence?)
Poetry Book (Will I suddenly have the urge to wear polar necks and scarves?)
Pistol Clip (Obviously use this with a pistol)

Also, if I drop stuff, I assume it doesn't stay on the floor for others around me to pick up?

Search Odds,

Item descriptions

Dropping will just remove it from your inventory, no one else can pick it up, so you can lose stuff when your inventory is full (max 51 items)

Edit: Book has a small chance of increasing AP by 1, also small chance of finishing it and therefore discarded.

You can use a gun, you'll just be crap at it until you train the skill (military). Guns of both kinds can be found in Police Stations, Malls (gun shop if you have Bargain Hunt skill) and armouries. Shotguns can also be found in pubs.
Woo Elephant Yeah wrote:Fire Axe (I have, and will be, killing people with this all the time)
Arguably the best weapon in the game as it does more damage per AP after you take into account the time spent looking for ammo with firearms.
Woo Elephant Yeah wrote:4 x Shotgun Shell (Obviously I need a shotgun)
Shotguns do 10 damage, so it's worth keeping hold of them.
Woo Elephant Yeah wrote:Portable Generator (Not much use for anything I need to do)
Put one in a hospital and people can perform surgery. I would think most now have power, although zombies can destroy them. Also, put one in a building with a mobile phone mast and people in that suburb (with phones) will be able to text each other. The genny will need fuel though.
Woo Elephant Yeah wrote:Crowbar (Pretty much pointless weapon in comparison to an Axe)
Almost, but I believe they're more effective in taking down barricades.
Woo Elephant Yeah wrote:2 x Pair Of Wirecutters (Never "ever" had to use them)
Useless. Originally they were used to get into junkyards, but all the junkyards in the game have had their fences cut now.
Woo Elephant Yeah wrote:Bottle Of Beer (Does this regain my health, or make me fall over)
I think you get 1 health. Same with wine.
Woo Elephant Yeah wrote:2 x News Paper (ermmm "Zombies invade the City Of Malton". "One man with a chunk missing from his head reportedly said Mrrrrnnnnnggghh")
Useless, apart from RP value.
Woo Elephant Yeah wrote:2 x Book (Does this increase my intelligence?)
No, but it does have a chance of giving you some XP (don't know how much though).
Woo Elephant Yeah wrote:Poetry Book (Will I suddenly have the urge to wear polar necks and scarves?)
Yes.
Woo Elephant Yeah wrote:Pistol Clip (Obviously use this with a pistol)
Pistols do more damage per AP than shotguns as you don't have to reload them as often. Although if you take out 4 fully loaded shotguns that's a potential 80 damage. :)

Unfortunately no, it doesn't.

Yeah but there's a Police Station two blocks NW. Considering that armouries are zombie magnets I'd go for that option. You might bag a flak jacket too.

i would advise getting the weapons skill before using a gun, else you wont hit shit (and probably still wont until you get higher hit %'s)

After 2 days shopping (staying in the Caiger Mall at the moment) my list now looks like this

Fire Axe
Baseball Bat
Crowbar
Kitchen Knife
Shotgun
5 x Shotgun Shells
3 x Pistol Clips

2 x Portable Generator
3 x GPS Unit
Mobile Phone

Pair Of Wirecutters
Bottle Of Beer

Should I just ditch the 2 extra GPS units?
It's such a shame you can't drop stuff to allow others to pick it up.

Yep chuck 'em

The idea is that you can't create an extra character for farming to pass on loads of useful items to your main character.

Which makes sense but is still really frustrating, like one of my guys has loads of pistol and shotgun ammo but as yet has been unable to find a gun :?

Me too, plus it would be nice to get some XP for successful searches.

Other than a limit of 50 items there are no disadvantages to carrying as much as you want.
