I was just given a copy of this randomly. I haven't even installed it and haven't the faintest clue what it is.

What is it and should I?

DOTA 2 is a DOTA game. ROLOLF

If you don't know what it is and don't particularly care then probably no, don't install it. Unless people here are still playing it on Fridays and you fancy joining and learning.

Yeah, DOTA games are an acquired taste. As a former Warcraft raider the tactics and skill may well appeal to you, but it's a steep learning curve and randoms are not forgiving. If you can handle that then you could be part of the demographic which makes up one of the largest gaming audiences in the world, otherwise if it still interests you then install it, play the tutorial, and poke a few 5punkers for a game.

Got rid of all mine very quickly with a post on the steam forums. Also a copy of portal I had floating around that I sent by mistake.

I'm really getting into this now - so far I've played 4 matches against other people, and it wasn't horrific.

Last match 3 of our team disconnected a minute after starting and left us somewhat thin on the ground. Me and the other chap kept at it though and, despite losing, had more kills than the other team. In fact I finished with most kills and with a hero I've never played before (the game type where you can only pick from 3 randomly generated character is good as it's lets you play different people).

Tonight I Dotad in public for the first time, with Roman and Pete. It wasn't as horrible as I thought it might be. We got horrifically bummed to start with, but we actually won the last gaem. Totally because we played awesome, not due to having someone on our side who killed all the dudes, all the time. No.

Was proper fun though, more of this kind of thing. Although saying that the future mother-in-law is coming to stay for a few days, and I'm not sure my dota fuelled language is appropriate in such circumstances
