Max Brooks was not involved in production of this. Now we know why. And I'm usually a subscriber to 'if you don't like it don't watch it', but this will prevent an actual film of the book being made, which is heartbreaking. Pitt filmed some of this near where I live. If I'd had known it had fast zombies and one man racing to save the world I would have found him and punched him in the cock for it.*

*I almost certainly wouldn't have. I actually think he's a great actor, but I'm struggling to see how this trailer can represent anything but a terrible interpretation of the book.

And that's a lesson as to why you don't sign away creative control when you licence your IP.

That not only looks stupid (zombies flowing like water), but has certainly got fuck all to do with Max Brook's universe.

I'm sure there was at least one section of the book that had swarms of zombies and the army was trying to fight them back. Perhaps that's what they're focusing on there. Just playing Devil's Advocate, I don't like the look of that either.

That's probably Enthiran, which I've watch without any subtitles. Indian films are made to be understood regardless of language barriers, due to the various languages and illiteracy, I believe. So I think I got most of it. And it's a pretty good film, quite mental as you can see from the robot clips of Youtube. Not to sound too faaabulous but the music sections are spectacular!

That would be the Battle of Yonkers. When I read that I imagined it as a great movie scene, the encroaching horde as much a metaphor for the creeping realisation that modern weapons and tactics are completely unsuitable for destroying the undead, and that their overrunning and consumption of civilisation is inevitable. Fast zombies would take that drawn out realisation and turn it into a blitzkrieg. I'm sure they've made it a spectacle though.

For me the most interesting parts of the book were the human sacrifice stories. The Chinese submarine and its crew, the Pakistani general. They could use those parts to make a decent film of it, but I don't see how they could crowbar Brad Pitt saving the world into that without severely altering the plot.

Full trailer of World War Z. Doesn't give any indication there's more to it than Brad Pitt is the hero, saving the planet from the swarming zombie horde. No hint of the smaller scale stories. Still looks pretty good though, if you ignore the source material.

If you pretend that the name is just a coincidence, and it is actually nothing to do with the book (not that hard to do, as it appears to have very few similarities) then it looks like it might be an entertaining if stupid romp. I actually quite like the "waves of zombies" effect. If you are going to have fast zombs, then it makes sense that they would manically crawl over each other to get at fresh meat. Kind of reminds me of ants, which is nicely creepy.

Like Pants says though, the fact that this film exists means that a more accurate to the book version of the film wont happen, which is :(

The trailer has reminded me of Battle Los Angeles. That had a good trailer, then I saw the film ... :unimpressed:

What a bunch of dicks, they've hollywoodised something that could have been so much better.

I used to be into musicals as a young'un, both stage and film, but haven't taken an interest for many a year, especially not for mainstream film musicals such as Moulin Rouge. Something about this grabbed me though. Perhaps what seem like very high production values, perhaps the actors involved (Wolverine can sing?). I reckon I'll give it a watch.

I really like to look of this, and I'm not even a huge Star Trek fan (loved TNG though). I just hope they don't set this one in the same universe as the last one - THE LENS FLARE UNIVERSE!

Edit: wow, Nolan "Every voice over on the planet" North is in it too.

Edit 2: And looking at imdb, Benedict Cumberbatch is in the Hobbit as "The Necromancer", aka Sauron. Geek glee!
