Re: Guild Wars 2 - Guild Upgrades
I've put this up because people (me included) are just researching whatever they feel like with no direction, and since guild influence is hard to come by (or expensive) and the sum of all our work it's only fair to get agreement on where we're going with it.
Some suggestions for the next step:
Politics II > Guild Armourer Contract - Will allow us to buy equipment with the lovely guild emblem on it.
Economy I > Vault Transport - Lets us summon the guild bank. Could be handy as a temporary stash until you can get back to town.
Architecture III > Guild Treasure Trove - A bigger guild bank to dump our crap in.
Aside from these a lot of the upgrades are temporary and/or location specific (boosts, banners), and I suggest that the permanent ones are a lot more valuable. Once we're all at the stage where we're dungeoning together these will be handy, but until then we're really not going to get much use out of them.

Re: Guild Wars 2 - Guild Upgrades
I did try to get some kind of plan together before but difference in opinion and other realisations meant that it wouldn't be so simple, however any plan is good.
I saw you bought Politics research and so I just bought the banner thing as it only cost 50. However I didn't realise that it was a one time use, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered (it really should be labelled better). I get the feeling the majority of stuff is one time use then, probably including Vault Transport, which is a bit poo. I'd say avoid them all and keep going for the permanent things, then like you say once people are grouping together more the consumable stuff can be stocked up.

The banner will still probably come in handy further down the line, and as you said it was fairly cheap. I thought vault transport was 500 (which I would hope was permanent), but the wiki says it's 50, so you're probably right.
Re: Guild Wars 2 - Guild Upgrades
Armour Contract looks good. I never have any trouble with bag space (still only using 12 slot bags too)

Re: Guild Wars 2 - Guild Upgrades
Vault Transport is 50, but the prerequisite Economy 1 is 500, but it is apparently consumable - which is absolutely fucking useless. Some way of putting the logo on our armour and weapons look good choices now.
Re: Guild Wars 2 - Guild Upgrades
Currently waiting on 5000 points for architecture 2 (or is it 3?), since a bigger bank and a weapon vendor are the only two permanent upgrades left.
Also, since this seemed an appropriate place to put this, our server has an Alliance for WvW called The Initiative. It contains both PCG and RPS, so it might be worth keeping an eye on for the future, if we get into WvW.

That's handy - we (Gunnar's Hold) were getting a bit of a trouncing from the Germans last night. Managed to turn things around a bit in the end, but we still lagging behind.Dog Pants wrote:Also, since this seemed an appropriate place to put this, our server has an Alliance for WvW called The Initiative. Yeah, I've encountered the German server before and they're pretty tough cookies.

Re: Guild Wars 2 - Guild Upgrades
I went on WvW last night and was not impressed, I was actually only trying to get to the area where I could catch a wolf, but we were getting a pasting from two German servers. I had a look outside but got instantly killed by a huge crowd of enemies and had to spend nearly all my money on one repair. Not exactly fun. The tutorial didn't explain much.
I don't know if people had left since the start of the battle, but this roaming crowd was about twenty-strong, while we had about six people, total. Hardly a contest. I tried to leave as well before I lost any more money, but the game said it couldn't contact the login server, crashed out and wouldn't let me back in.

Re: Guild Wars 2 - Guild Upgrades
I think you had a very atypical experience there. Even when I've played and we've been taking a beating it's been an exciting dash to try to cover off key areas, beating back the attacks at the expense of losing more ground elsewhere.
Re: Guild Wars 2 - Guild Upgrades
I suggest we look at the economy upgrades, there are some banners that grant bonus to magic find and xp at level 3
Re: Guild Wars 2 - Guild Upgrades
As you may have picked up, the newest guild update - Guild Missions - is not much good to us. The cost of being able to build one mission is prohibitive and given our size etc, I think that we would be best of just going for the upgrades that are beneficial to us.
I suggest waiting for 5000 influence and purchasing politics level 3 which will enable us to produce a" +10% influence from Events" bonus which lasts for 24 hours. After that I suggest staying with politics and after achieving level 4 we can start to produce "+20% Dungeon Influence for 24 Hrs"

Re: Guild Wars 2 - Guild Upgrades
The problem with the time based ones is that getting more than a couple of us online at the same time is pretty rare. However, in the absence of anything else to spend it on, I have no objection.
Re: Guild Wars 2 - Guild Upgrades
It looks like we might make the 10k required for level 4 politics faster than I thought, currently 5.7/10. Something my missus pointed out to me (she joined us recently, "lynnae" incase anyone was wondering who that was) if there are more than one of you in an area doing an event it is better to team up and do the event rather than do it together but not grouped, this yields more influence than otherwise.
If you are willing to spend the gold, it costs 2g per 1k influence from the guild promoter on one of the LA bank balconies (the one to the left as you enter) and if you have the laurels you can spend 16 on 2k influence - might be better to save these though as you can buy ascended gear with them.

Hax!
We should do more dungeons and stuff though.

Yup, dungeons are great. I need to farm AC and HotW.
