But if you want an example in regards to the affect of simple piracy to a console, surely you don't need to look further than the Amiga?

I tried to search for former attempts at this type of thing but ended up just giving up.

There was the appropriately named Phantom - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantom_Entertainment

I'm starting to become as wary of the Ouya bashing bandwagon as I am the Ouya itself. They might not be evil, perhaps just naive and/or incredibly ambitious. And I don't trust these industry veterans saying this is impossible because XboxStation 3 costs $XX,000,000 to bring to market. There may be other ways to do it.

The OpenPandora proves that independent, hackable devices can be sold, but definitely not for $99USD. The Pandora, consisting of a 1ghz processor and 512Mb of ram will currently cost you €370 or thereabouts. So, these things aren't cheap...
