Diablo III multiplayer thread!

Post by Mr. Johnson »

The lovely post lady finally brought my copy of Diablo, so it's time to team up and fail spectacularly in multiplayer.
The idea I had for this thread is that we use it to share battletags, create four-man teams and decide which class we're going to play as. As fun as it would probably be to play four barbarians, it's probably best if we even things out a little. I propose we make a character solely for the purpose of 5punk multiplayer, as this seems like the fairest thing to do. Joose mentioned it scales to player levels, but it seems more fun if we level up together. However, I could be wrong about this as I haven't played the game yet.

Furthermore, I still have FRAPS installed and would like to record our sessions for our youtube channel. We still haven't found someone to edit these things so if anyone is willing to step up be my guest. If not I'll try to do it myself, as I really want to get us out there. If there are any objections or people who don't want to be included in recordings, please say so.

Battletags
Dr Kitteny Berk: berk#2309
Herecomespete: HereComePete#2811
Roman Totale: ElvisDuck#2185
Dog Pants: DogPants#2612 (does not own the game ...yet)
Sandvich: PoeticJ#2674
Grimmie: Grimmie#2769
Mr. Johnson: MrJohnson#1838

So ehh, that's as far I got so if you have anything to add let me know.

XOXO,
Mr. Johnson.

Well, Monk and Witch Docter don't appeal to me, I'm playing a Demon Hunter so don't want to play a Wizard as another ranged just yet, and I'm more interested in completing the game on at least the first two difficulties before leveling my Barb. So I'm sticking with leveling just the one character for now, so starting from scratch to level in groups isn't really on the table for me.

I'm playing Monk on the US server with Roman, which I'll probably use to play with my US friends too.
I've got a Barbie on the EU server to play with Joose, but only 'cause it complimented the wizard Joose went with.

I'd like to make a Witchdoctor on the EU server, so I'm happy to fill that support role.

Whilst getting guys to level up together as consistent four man groups would be quite cool, I can see it being potentially very limiting. For example, if only three people from your group are available, you cant play at all without leaving the fourth bloke behind. I'm not sure we should be intentionally introducing reason for us not to play.

As long as we keep one or two characters for 5punky play and try to keep them all within a level or two of each other I think we will be fine.

IIRC It has very powerful level adjustment, so you can have a level 20 playing with a level 1 with very few problems.

I'm not sure how good the balancing is personally, a few times I've gone to help someone out who's ~10 levels lower, it's been waaaay easier than it was as the time with the same number of people.

I've only really experimented with barbarian and monk, as both seem to be suited to my playstyle. I'd be happy to fill any role, but I think I'm going for a monk first.

EDIT: oh, and the levelling up together is only a suggestion; I'm going to start a level 1 character but there's no need for you to follow. I just hate it when someone's hogging all the kills.

I'm wi you on that. Like I say though, as long as you stay within a few levels of each other it should be fine.

That was sort of what I was going for with the '5punk only' characters. We'll see how this works out when we actually play some games.
I'm not sure how we're going to do the teams though, since it would mean that say Me, Joose, Grimmie and Roman make a group, we would have to keep our characters within that specific group and I couldn't team up with berk since levelling up that character means it'll no longer be on par with the original four.
But maybe I'm thinking too much into this.

The more meticulous the plan, the less likely it is to survive its first contact with 5punkers.

As I've been waiting fucking ages for this and I get far too attached to the story I would actually hate bringing bumhugger the barbarian to a co-op party. Hate is indeed a strong word and yes I mean it.

However I am more than flappy to build a whatever (likely wizzzzzard or DH) to bring to multi-player.

I'm liking the enthusiasm Mr J, and I hate to throw semen on your fire but I'm just not sure how 5punky a video of a murky swamp filled with small dudes punching gold out of animals is our best game for advertising the 5punky ethos?? I think we should install jops again and we can film us faaabulous rainbow smoke boating and helicopter stacking.

Pete touched on a consideration of mine there (he touched some other things too, but lets not go into that). I wouldn't want to play multiplayer until I'd finished the game once in single player. Story and multiplayer don't make for great stablemates in most games, with people who've already heard the bit you're on getting bored and impatient, and being unable to progress at your own pace.

Impatience of other party members is not the worst bit of trying to experience the story in coop. It only takes one person to trigger a speech or accept a quest for everyone, but if you're out of range then you won't hear it. I just killed a boss with a friend, and teleported out. As soon as I got back an NPC made a 10 second speech, which my friend missed. It wasn't the most vital bit of info, but if you like to absorb that stuff up (as I do) it can be frustrating.

Valid point, but jops was new and spectacular then, now it would just feel forced to try and have fun in that. payday: the heist shows some promise though.

I just found one of the items needed to access the secret level - if we only find the rest..

There's a bit of a history behind the whole Whimsy thing. There were rumours that Diablo had a secret level you could access by clicking on a cow a certain amount of times. I don't think it was proven, but Diablo II did have a cow level which you could open a portal to by combining Wirt's wooden leg and a few other things in the Horadric Cube. It was populated by halberd wielding bipedal bovines and was fucking nails. My most powerful character lost all its gear in there because I couldn't survive long enough to grab it back off my previous corpse. There was a cheat in another Blizz game which was "there is no cow level". The mushroom made an appearance in Diablo II as a quest item. When you picked it up your character uttered "now that is a big mushroom!".

I think the only one that isn't random is wirts bell, bought off the child in act 2. But it is 100k gold. My mate has the mushroom, shinbone and the liquid rainbow so he's doing pretty well for a single playthrough.

I'm not going to watch videos of whimsyshire because when I eventually get there I want it to be a total brainsplosion.
