I think we can safely blame the US for much of the shit horror films around, so essentially it's deject fault.

I have Let The Right One In on DVD but haven't watched it yet. I've heard it's really good though. Can we cite that as an example of good horror?

Is it the US version or the original Swedish? I've only seen the Swedish one.

I think it's the US one, but that wasn't a conscious choice, I just spotted it on offer and grabbed it. For the sake of the discussion though either would do.

Again, Let the Right One In isn't really a horror film, despite the vampire. IMDb says "Drama | Fantasy | Romance" and it's more like Twilight than Nosferatu, in terms of genre. But I can only speak for the original as that's all I've seen. Isn't the remake called Let Me In?

I'm struggling to think of any good horror films that haven't been mentioned already. I enjoyed The Mist and Wolf Creek.

Wolf Creek I thought was more of a latter day slasher flick. It felt almost like torture porn, in that it made me uneasy from the violence rather than edgy from tension.

I think the US one is called Let Me In and it's the only remake I'm tempted to actually have a look at as it's received a lot of praise, including from the book's author.

Horror movie's aren't the same nowadays. But that is certainly because of society and it's changes more than the actual FILM being scary or not, If you took say, Thirteen Ghosts (the new one now not the crappy b&w one) and put it on in a cinema in the 60's, there'd be outrage. People would be scared shitless. It's just our perception of things has changed.

I love horror movies. My list would have to be something like:

Dead Silence.
Pet semetary.
28 days later.
Childs Play (although this is more of a comedy, I know).
The shining. (Basically love any SK thing, TV or Movie. Rose Red is a must see for those who are SK fans also)

The other movie's i'm thinking of are gross/intense sure, but not necessarily horrors in my opinion. Like:
House of Wax.
Thirteen Ghosts.
Last house on the left.
The hills have eyes (original is way better imo).
The Grudge.

After thought, not forgetting classics like
Nightmare on Elm street (Good old Freddy)
The exorcist.
Halloween (the original!! not the squillion friggin sequels).
Texas chainsaw massacre.
Amityville Horror (again original, not recent crappy tween remakes)

I couldn't think of anything to add at the time, but having just watched Silent Hill again I'd like to give it a mention.

I think it's a genuinely good film, with a mix of creepiness and gore with a brilliant atmosphere. The music is taken from the games and fits perfectly. The story and acting is decent enough, although I can never figure out what's supposed to be happening as it's all very metaphysical. I especially like the camera angles which although I haven't played the games I can tell have come from them (I might read that). For instance a camera fixed to roof top as it tracks the character running below.

It's the best game to film adaptation I can think of off the top of my head. Radha Mitchell is a bit hot too.

The film adaptations of Resident Evil showed me just how utterly crap I was at the games. I thought it was all about monsters in a creepy mansion, but a few minutes into the film and there's like this secret underground base where they've making the T-Virus and I was like "what the fuck? I never even got that far!" I thought it was all about messing around with single-use savegame ribbons for typewriters and getting killed by bats you couldn't see because the camera angles were arse.

Resident Evil the movie was far better than the game. I do like the first film, the second was shite, and I didn't watch any after that. Silent Hill was enjoyed by Mrs Pants and I. Good, creepy atmosphere.

I actually wrote that about 30 mins before the end. Having watched it and paid attention this time it makes perfect sense, except for not knowing the precise reason why they remain in limbo at the end. I can think of a couple of things but /shrug

Also! There appears to be a sequel coming out later this year which is coincidental and long over due. Will probably be shit.

Probably for the best. They went deeply odd after that.

This, film wise.

Although, majorly disagreeing with the games being better than the films! The games were fantastic, even if the storylines lacked real depth.

At the time of playing it for the first time on Playstation I guess I considered the controls another challenge to overcome.
I did love RE1 2 and 3 but they might drive me nuts if I had a go now.

on the other hand RE4 on Wii is still the best Wii game I've played
