Web traffic / analytics

Post by TezzRexx »

Can anyone recommend a decent web traffic site?

I've been asked to do an audit on an external website, but http://www.alexa.com/ isn't providing much useful information...

Anyone aware of any better sites? Thanks :ahoy:

Analytics is usually only for your own site, as you need to put a tracking code on your pages. Alexa's only really good for tracking traffic on really high ranking sites. I can't think offhand as to something that meets those needs :/

I would have thought you'd need internal access to the website to analyze the traffic in any meaningful way, ie. access to the webserver logs.

It does appear to be that way sadly :( I think Alexa gets/bases most of it's data through Google searches.

As with a lot of other things in my new job, this has eventually "come within my remit". For full website "health checks" we use a tool called sitebeam. Not entirely sure how good it is from an analytics point of view, but as far as whole website audits go, it's pretty much unbeatable as far as I'm concerned. There's a free trial available, which limits you to 10 reports, but they are very in depth. Might be worth a look?
