Mrs Joose is thinking of getting a camera, and is looking for something nice and fancy, but not a fully blown SLR. Didjit-all, obviously.

canon powershot g5 or g6

great quality, and not too small or too big.
settings from point-and-shoot to full blown slr stylee.
and decent value second hand i think

My Dad's got one and they're nice cameras, thought the price would be a bit lower by now, though - although still a good deal.

One thing I've found that annoys the ladies though, is to not have a printing solution. The gf and also my Mum were most unimpressed by my/my Dad's digital cameras until we could quickly produce high-quality printed versions on demand.

Looks fun, just two niggles with it:

Focal Length Equivalent to 35mm Camera: 36 - 432mm

This means it's gonna be great at far away stuff, oh yes. But if you wanna zoom out to get plenty in the frame, be prepared to Just Step Back.

My ol' Fuji was 30-300mm, and I got irritated by how much I had to step back when dealing with it's widest setting.

Optical Sensor Size: 1/2.5"

or 10mm (remember: film = 35mm optical sensor) - don't expect great results in low light, even if it does have an optical stabiliser (stabilisers are really designed for landscape photography and stuff involving a long zoom) - you're going to get grain or have to use the flash. Fortunately, it's not cursed by being a Fuji sensor, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

It'll be a great camera for well lit outdoor photos and an good/average one for indoor and low light situations.

Take all of the above with a pinch of salt because you're not really going to know how good it is just from the specifications alone - go to Jessops and ask to fondle one in person.
