I think we need to hold an intervention with Lucas.

I was never too fond of the Sam Raimi version but this looks significantly worse. (to me)

It really didn't need another reboot, it's only been 10 years since the Sam Raimi / Toby Maguire version.

Still, I'll probably watch it, although it doesn't grab me too much.

Really? It looks significantly better to me. I was worried after the other trailer that it was going to be all mopey emo bullshit, but this one shows a lot more Spidey like snarky comments. In fact, it looks generally more like the comics than the Raimi one. Plus, it doesn't have Tobey Maguire in it. New guy looks much less annoying.

The baddie looks a bit rubbish though. I'm not sure I would have gone for the Lizard, when there are a bunch more entertaining Spider-man bad guys that haven't been used yet. Lizard always seems a bit of a one note character to me.

It was only 15 years between the two Batman movie franchises, and that worked out pretty well. Bear in mind that 10 years is long enough that there will be people interested in seeing this version that were not born when the last version came out (not saying they should be allowed to of course, I'm not sure what the age rating on this one will be). Out of interest, how long do you think things like this *should* have been left?

Well, if reboots must be done, 15 to 20 minimum I'd say.
However, your comment about Batman isn't a great comparison, because although on roughly the same subject matter, the newer one is substantially different in art style and general direction. Sadly, this Spider Man looks to be more of the same.

Are....are you watching the same trailer as me? Its not *as* big a difference as the batmen, but its considerably less campy and dayglo.

Agreed - Toby was too dewy eyed for my tastes. This one seems to have the Spider-Man patter and attitude down better. My only concern is the 3D.

I fucking hate 3D.

No J. Jonah Jameson, not even in the credits on IMDb. They could have bought back J.K. Simmons to say something about lemons.

Can't say I care too much about Spider-man, as a character. And the more recent films (or any, ever) haven't changed my mind.

In my case it's probably because I was introduced to spiderman through the horrible 90's cartoons as opposed to batman who had awesome 90's cartoons and films directed by Tim Burton.

Woah, woah, woah. Back the fuck up! That shitty disney-esque spiderman was out ten years ago?! A fucking decade ago!

Anywerd, now I'm over that shock. There's only seven or eight years between batman and robin and batman begins, which to me is still more than enough time given the change in style and execution. But to be honest if it had only been a couple of years the change in direction and art style alone would be enough to mark them as entirely separate in my mind.

Spiderman looks significantly better in this (mostly) that the emo-angst-riddled thing that came before it. Plus Maguire was shit.

Sony has to keep making these because their deal requires them to keep making Spiderman movies or they lose their license to make them at all. It's retarded because they should just stop completely. Spiderman isn't that interesting anymore.

Spiderman was always my favourite superhero and I never read any comics, so it's entirely through the (what must have been) 60s-70s cartoons that I know him. I don't know if these are considered any good by aficionados, but I thought they were awesome and had Spiderman pants, a Spiderman lunchbox, Spiderman duvet and Spiderman pajamas. In contrast my exposure to Batman was limited to Burt Ward and Adam West's portrayal of the dymanic duo and as a result I only ever owned a Batman hanky.

These days, I just think every new version or either tries to be "more as the comic intended" but I don't really really know whether that's true or not having never seen them. Batman has certainly come a lot further in being "darker" given where they started from my perspective, but the last Spiderman film seemed a little try-hard with silly emo overtones, which were desperately unfashionable even then. I've mostly enjoyed all of them though.

Perhaps they are catering to the Saturday-morning-cartoon crowd like me, who know Spidey, Batman, Hulk, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, but when presented with Iron Man, Daredevil or Green Lantern are like...who? I have no idea if Marvel or DC even bother making cartoons anymore, the last sign I saw of them seemed rather desperate spin-offs.
