Wireless Adapter

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Wireless Adapter

Post by Thompy »

Due to mischievous pets I'm wanting to give wireless another go, hoping that it's improved somewhat. Last time I used it either WZC polling every 60 seconds caused packet loss, which is a misery in online games, or the included software made it its job to be a complete ball ache. Ping times were just generally a bit too high anyway using a Belkin USB adapter.

How does Windows 7 handle polling? Is it fine? If not, can you turn it off without turning off the entire wireless connection?

If it's worth doing, any product recommendations? Speed isn't an issue, but it'd have to get through several thick walls across ~15m, and I don't want a noticeably higher ping than using ethernet.

I feel this is a pipe dream though.

Sounds like you might be better off looking at powerline networking. I've never had reliably good experiences gaming over wireless, except when im in the same room as the router.
