Maybe. Presumably they'll only miss stationary targets now.
Re: 5punkyBEEF Server
Things I've noticed: Stingers now work, jet guns do something, I can play entire rounds without getting kicked or timed out.

Having to get 5 Squad Deathmatch wins for the Professional Russian achievement sucks big donkey balls.

Re: 5punkyBEEF Server
Moving has left me without Internet, which is probably a good thing to give my brain a rest, so this means I have not seen the new maps.
Initial thoughts are positive or a bag of wank?

I've not played them yet, but I have put them in the map cycle.

They're pretty awesome. Sharqi plays a lot like the original, Wake Island is improved over the BF2 version, Karkand itself is just OK, Gulf of Oman has some awesome changes.Jimmington wrote:Moving has left me without Internet, which is probably a good thing to give my brain a rest, so this means I have not seen the new maps.

I love them, but I can see that the cost for them if you didn't preorder can be prohibitive. They put a lot of work into them though, and it shows.
Re: 5punkyBEEF Server
We've been playing them tonight on EBS and they seem to play pretty much exactly as the old ones. Pretty good I thought. A few nice patch extras like slightly more persistent mines and a Javelin which can actually hit something may have contributed to my happiness though.

The squad play we had was nice.
Shame Recon still get boned on the points side of things though, a whole 60 points for a strike on a Soflam'd target.

Hmm.
The KH2002 with foregrip and holo sight is rather good. Mr J was right about it being a good gun, might want to try it out chaps.

Re: 5punkyBEEF Server
I've not managed to get on due to xmas/family etc, and will be away until the 2nd now. Might be able to get a game in then, otherwise it's the next weekend. I've not noticed TV station being too bad for claymores, since it's normally where snipers live and they (bizarrely) don't get claymores any more. There's a little more space in there too than in the BF2 map.
The claymore thing has reminded me of the conversation we had last weekend about how Support is the pretty boy man-whore who always gets the girl and everyone loves, while Recon is his bitch who gets bullied and skulks about.
DICE - "Wow, Support, with all your resupply points you really are awesome!"
Support - "Aw shucks"
DICE - "Hey, claymores! We always gave them to Recon before to cover their asses while sniping"
Recon - *Looks on expectantly*
DICE - "Hahaha, psyche! Here, Supply, you can have them."
Recon - *Looks dejected*
Supply - *Smile glints in the sunlight*
DICE - "Oh wow, look, C4! That's totally suited to a stealth class. We're sorry we dicked you over Recon, here have.. Psyche! Hahahahahaha, got you again. Here you go Supply, we love you."
Supply - "Oh, you guys!"
We should do a machinima. Not like the BF2 A-Team intro though.

Re: 5punkyBEEF Server
To be fair, nothing is more annoying and lame than a sniper camping in one building for a whole round protected by claymores. They need to buff the Recon class, for sure, but honestly, moving the C4 and claymores to Support is a great move.
Re: 5punkyBEEF Server
It's only lame and annoying when they're on your side. Snipers never get high scores, just lots of kills. Although I suppose nerfing them means you don't have that many any more. Would be nice if you got more points for soflam assists though, so people might actually use them.

Re: 5punkyBEEF Server
It's 20 for a lock on, and then ~60 if someone hits a target you've locked. A whooping 80ish. Whereas the engineer/pilot/driver who shot the guided munition, especially javelins, gets disable, destruction and kill points not too far shy of 1000.
Points for Soflamming sucks balls.
As for Recon, I think they do need C4, especially with the fact they suck in CQB with their class weapons. They certainly don't need Claymores though. They could also do with a proper class carbine or two (as per DICE's promise when they said Recon was meant to be a hybrid of Sniper/Commando from BF2) so they're a proper hybrid role.
On review, the "hybrid" classes proposed by DICE haven't really worked, it's only assault that's got a good choice between medic equipment or more assaulty stuff. Engineer is marginal with its choice between AA and AT. Support is a pure support role, not a hybrid at all.

Re: 5punkyBEEF Server
OK, just had a little tickle. 2 rounds on wake, 1 on Sharqui. Managed 1 full round, the other 2 crashed out - i guess i should probably investigate the drivers in case i am slacking. Didn't play enough to get a feel for the maps, but from initial looks, Wake looks pretty fine.

Re: 5punkyBEEF Server
Well that was much better - had some good rounds - rusty as fck, but i was never that good in the first place - still managed to crash out about 5 times or so, but i noticed that UPnP was enabled again in the router and that used to cause me massive problems in Bad Company so i am wondering if it is that. Will knock it out and see how the next session goes.

Re: 5punkyBEEF Server
I am sure there were hacktivists in BF2 but i guess i was too engrossed to notice them - but i have certainly noticed them in this game, i played a round last night with the guy getting about 168-19 and it is only reading the forums you see that it is commonplace; this guy http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/so ... 383999588/ is just blatant - or this Battlelog shows it nicely as well - http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/ba ... 243117487/
I am just not really sure what you achieve from doing it really - cheating in single player games is fine of course, nothing beats having Nukes in Civ whilst the enemy is using flint arrowheads, but in an online multiplayer it must be done purely to wind people up.
And the other thing i am not sure of - in the suggestion forums on Battlelog if people are posting like Borat as a laugh or they are genuine grievances in comedy English. Either way they are damn funny.

Re: 5punkyBEEF Server
I've noticed a few like that in game. If they had thousands of sniper kills it would be more believable, but SMGs and shotguns mean you're going to have to be right in the thick of it, and all the skill in the world won't stop you dying pretty often when you're right up front. I'm sure they'll sort it at some point, and it doesn't really detract from my enjoyment.

Re: 5punkyBEEF Server
Gulf Of Oman gives me the fucking rage. Proper Beefy rage.
It's incredibly biased towards vehicles to the extent that if you're not in one you're fucked. Doesn't help that RPG/SMAW suck, even when hitting targets from behind, which is difficult to do on a map where cover isn't widely available.

Re: 5punkyBEEF Server
I agree about the cheaters - at the end of the day, bin the server and move on - no need to get that upset about it - still can't think of a good reason to do it in the first place though.
Not had one crash since disabling the UPnP so it looks like it was that was giving me the comedy griefing.
