Origin Winter Sale

Post by Killavodka »

50% off EA action games, some good deals to be had. Did a small lol at dead space 2 being two-thirds the price of the original, reflective of the game's quality?

Excuse my naivety, but what is the deal with the Origin hate?

Admittedly i have only used it for BF3, with no problems, and previous to that the EA downloader thing for BF2142 with no problems - but wherever i look on the internet i see Origin hate.

I will not buy anything on it because of the EA vs. Steam bullshit. My opinion is that EA wanted to cut out Valve's cut of the proceeds from selling their games and DLC on Steam. We already have plenty of digital download purveyors available, and I'm not going to support EA's bullshit just because they're greedy assholes.

For all the hoo-haa about Origin about it being bigger and better from EA, it's simply a rebagded EA-Downloader (error logs and messages confirm it). It also doesn't DO anything useful from my view as a user.

I've no desire to use another DRM-locked digital service as I already use one with Steam, which just so happens to be rather good as well. Any other digital downloads come from places like GOG or other DRM free sites.

I also extremely dislike having to load both it and Battlelog for BF3, when it does nothing to contribute to my gaming experience (like Steam does with friends and the linked-in overlay), and it's obviously EA's fault it's a mandatory requirement, as proven by the Razer1911 patch that removes the need for it from BF3's exe, so I refuse to support it as a digital platform (hence buying my copy at retail).

And plenty of people have had the same opinion of steam in the past and even in the present. To be honest I couldn't give a flying fudge, competition is a good thing and as long as I get my games at a fair price and the service works (which origin has done, for me at least) I will be happy.
