Spec me a possible new graphics card, bitches!
So, Threef is telling me my beloved 320mb 8800 GTS may not even be able to play it
This is my current setup.
I'm going to wait till the game is here though before upgrading, but should it fall on its arse, I'm considering one of these. Looking around the £150 mark, £200 at a push, and according the Threef site, this should allow me to play it at 1920 x 1080 High Quality Settings (I'd only require 1440 x 900).
Wot think?

GTX 560ti is a great midrange card that should be in your budget. If that's too much, you could go with a Radeon HD 6850 which should also get you cruisin'.
Re: Spec me a possible new graphics card, bitches!
Related question. I currently have a GeForce 285 GTX. OCUK are doing a special offer for the same card for £100 this week. Would it be worth buying a second and doing SLI or getting a whole new card?
I'm in no real rush mind, it's still a pretty decent card for it's age and runs nearly everything on High settings still.

I think my GTX280 is dying so that offer might be handy for me as a replacement/spare.
As for two of them though, I'm not sure it's worth the bother as the performance is usually only around 1.5x. You'll need two more suitable power connectors, won't be able to do multi-monitor and still won't have DirectX 11.
The GTX470 they also have on offer might represent an easier upgrade - about the same performance but none of the disadvantages, but I notice they are all refurbs which would put me off.

I have no problem with my ATi cards or the drivers.
Re: Spec me a possible new graphics card, bitches!
With my recent upgrade I have a BFG GeForce GTX 275 OC going spare. It ran BF3 beta on medium on my PC. If you want it and you can cover the postage you can have it. Otherwise it'll sit in a draw because I can't be arsed with sticking it on eBay.

If this was directed at me, I'd be interested. I pretty much can't play anything on my PC at the moment - the screen just goes black and the red light comes on on the back of my card. I'm probably going to get a new power supply this week, and was kind of resigned to having to buy a new GPU too, so Skyrim could be played, but funds are a little tight.spoodie wrote:With my recent upgrade I have a BFG GeForce GTX 275 OC going spare. Your need is probably greater with only an 8800, I can probably stretch to a non-Ti 560, so we'll both be getting a step up.TezzRexx wrote:If you don't FJ, I will

Hmmmm, maybe you should have it FJ as I think I've found my card, and I'll have some monies soon to be able to pay for it...

Comparing the 6870 to the 570 ti seems to be literally a frame less with Beef3, there's not much difference between other games and for being £40 less... I think it's the way to go.

Although I'm now starting to worry about my power supply, as its only 450w.

This was my thinking so the offer was directed at Tezz, but if he doesn't want it I'm happy to send it your way.FatherJack wrote:Your need is probably greater with only an 8800

Thanks for the offer, but I ended up buying a 560, plus a new PSU.
Unfortunately I forgot it was MoT month, so I'll be drinking Tesco beer and trying not to smoke, but at least I got Batman for free. And pre-ordered Skyrim. The iPad will have to wait.

Oh yeah, and if you can avoid having parcels delivered by HDNL, do so, they're cunts.
Re: Spec me a possible new graphics card, bitches!
Well, bitches, rather than start a new thread I thought I'd tag on the end of this my request for some help.
My original 8800 died a few weeks ago, and now the replacement 8800gtx kindly donated by Pete has given up too. Therefore I'm now in the market for a new card, but not really playing any games on my PC and being a single-income household at the moment means that I don't really fancy spending much.
Thinking of a budget up to about £50, preferably with specs at least equal to an 8800gtx so that I know the games I have installed will still work. Had a bit of a look around OCUK, but seeing as I have no idea what's good these days I thought I should ask you knowledgable folk before making an impusle purchase!
