Werd is indeed an in-joke. Taken from the wiki:

Deject's mom - The mother of one of our members, often heard screaming in the background of Teamspeak. "Werd to your mother!" It is also a widely disputed fact that, yes, the fan does make the room look smaller.

Which I expect clears it up completely.

However the specific start to this was a poll that deej posted. I can't remember what the content was, but one of the options was 'werd to your mother' - we all took it upon ourselves to give word to deject's mother in one of the most one sided polls this forum has seen.
