Battlefield Bad Company 2
I have just done a fresh install, but keep getting this message when trying to play on ranked servers. It's a genuine copy purchaced through Steam.
I have tried manually installing Punkbuster and updating it for the game but to no avail. Any thoughts ?

Re: Punkbuster problems
Download PBSetup and make sure that PunkBuster is updated.

Re: Punkbuster problems
Isn't there a .htm file that sometimes got borked in COD4? Might be worth looking for that and dropping it in your Punkbuster install.

Is pnkBstrA turned on in services? (Start->Admin Tools->Services, or via control panel)
I've got mine set to manual so have to turn it on every time I play Bacons/RO2, but it did get disabled the other day for some reason (think it was when I installed RO2).

Why are you doing that? Out of principle? It doesn't really affect anything to have it running all the time, not even performance on anything close to a noticeable level.buzzmong wrote:Is pnkBstrA turned on in services? (Start->Admin Tools->Services, or via control panel)

Principle and performance. That and I like my list of processes to be short as possible. Allows me to keep an eye on it on the offchance something nasty crops up.deject wrote:Why are you doing that? Same reason why I go into my registry now and again an nuke most of the startup Run folders.
There's also no reason why things like Adobe Reader or MS Office need to be running their quickstart services/apps in the background considering how little I use it, or that things like Quicktime and Adobe updaters are sitting running on the off chance there's an update (which I'll be told about next time I run the programs anyway).
Also while most of these individual processes/services use bugger all, they do start adding up both in memory and CPU cycles (polling etc..).

There is no mention of it in there, strange because I HAVE installed it manually !buzzmong wrote:Is pnkBstrA turned on in services? (Start->Admin Tools->Services, or via control panel)
