I would call this a thread revive, but after 3 years it's more like thread necro.

Either way, to the boozamahol!

After searching over the past couple of years for my beloved Löwernbraü to no avail I've had to branch out in my hunt for a general beer. I've now settled on Warsteiner as it's replacement after trying a couple of easily available German brews.

However, I'm very partial to weissbier (wheat beer) these days such as Erdinger or Tucher. Hoegaarden is still a popular choice, especially if I'm buying normal sized 330ml bottles.

What about the rest of you badger feltchers then? Have your tastes changed? Have you come across any new tipples that tickle your palate?

We consider Hoegaarden ' wijvenbier', girl's beer. Just so you know. :P
Also, weissbier means 'white beer' but it is made from wheat so if you weren't translating I take my pedantry back.

These days I'm enjoying Kopparberg (there's a raspberry one about, very nice), and DOOM BAARRRRRR! which is delicious, just needs to come in cheaper.

One beer that I had recently that was quite good was Belhaven Scottish Ale. It pours with a thick head that is so creamy and delicious that it's almost better than drinking the beer. Rather quite tasty. I need to see if I can find some nitro cans because the regular ones don't make the head and otherwise I would need to go to the bar that has it on draught.

I don't think I have a favourite any more, I just try to sample as many different ales as possible. They're all pretty good really, but as Berk said Doom Bar is lovely. I'm a member of Camra, so I feel obliged to drink beer at any opportunity that presents itself. I don't know if that's what membership of Camra means, but that's what it means to me. I've also got batch three of my own brew going.

When not drinking ale I like the odd single malt, ideally an island. Laphroig is nice, but I'm starting to think the really smokey ones are for beginners. Which is fine, really, but I feel I should develop my palette.

Really? But Hoegaarden is a lovely summer beer. Thinking about Begian beer though, what's the name of the abbey brewed one that's meant to be the best beer ever which the monks have had to put a purchase amount limit on? Nevermind, it's Westvleteren.

And no, I wasn't translating, but I made the addition as it seems to be more commonly called white beer (weissbier) rather than weizenbier. So consider your pedantry well and truly taken back :P

Bellhaven is fantastic, used to get the stout as a kid... not seen it around much though, would be nice to find a pub that stocked it.

Buzz, You mean Westvleteren; I have some in my basement, the 12° one which is pretty heavy stuff. I'd like to try the blonde one but haven't managed to find some so far as it's as rare as they say it is. The monks sell them per license plate, and you can buy one crate every month. (Note to self: get some for Belgiumbash II) The beer itself is very good but I don't believe in a best beer in the world and there are other trappist which is at least as good as Westvleteren. My favourite so far is Orval.

Also, it is a lovely summer beer. A lovely summer beer for girls.

Oooooooo boozes!
Boozes for me though is normally quite lager specific. I am not an ale or cider connoisseur, I hate red wine, and only drink white wine for the sake of social conformity if nothing else is available. I don't drink spirits or cocktails unless wasted already, and even then they taste a bit blargh mostly.

My favourite beer experience was a few years back - half a litre of the then untested Staropramen, served in an ice cold frosty glass, by a smiling, smoking hot Czech girl in an underground, candle lit bar in Prague. Staropramen is found around the UK now, but it never seems to live up to that original. Still, its what I go for if available, I live in hope.

Other than that, I drink copious amounts of fosters at home because its cheap and sates my thirst well enough, but really any of the continentals are better. A nice Peroni goes down well.

To be fair, this was 5 years ago and if I was buying canned beer it was to get shitfaced, so the highest determining factor was price. It's generally just as good as other American big name domestics (read: not really that good), but you can get 24 cans for ~$10 here.

I went to the offie, I am now eating beans for 7 days, and yes, I realise I bought 33% chocolate beer, I have no idea why.

I'm a dirty cider scrumper & so here's a few I like to frequent:

Summer time party cider - Savanna, but only because the little crates had a plastic-ey lining that we could shove a load of ice & cold water in for fresher year uni parties & alike >:) (it still tastes a little suspect like a kopparberg narf)

Best cider I ever had, and do try it if you ever find it, was a 'table cider' (served in wine/champagne looking bottles, no cans) at the hereford cider festival, which was called black knight I think. It'd won the best cider prize a few years running and we tried some. It was really nice.

Always enjoy a Brothers Cider of any flavour except toffee apple & Lemon+Lime at the Glastonbury Festival bar :)

Also a note for general drinking, wetherspoons now has thatchers gold on tap, hurrah :)

Pouille Fumé is my favourite at the mo, but at 18 squids a pop I can't really afford that much of it. Pouille Fuissé is decent alternative although it's also expensive. But get a couple of those down range and frankly any old box of Namqua will keep you going until you pass out.
