Flash Animation Stuff

Post by Wiggy »

I've had a bit of an idea, would like to know what people think while it's still fresh in my brain.

As you probably don't know, I decided to learn Japanese this year, just as something to do, a bit of a challenge. I've had a couple of lessons and think it would be cool to make a flash based cartoon in which the central character goes to Japan and learns the language, culture etc. Is it going to be easy enough to make a basic-looking cartoon in Flash (assuming I can acquire a copy) and does anyone know of any sites where I could get some stock sounds from, cause I can see that being an issue as well?

It might also help if I mentioned that I want this cartoon to teach people basic words and phrases, getting more complex as I learn more and more, eventually becoming a series (assuming I stick with it that long).

it would be hard as hell and take forever

(twss)

http://www.freesound.org/ is the standard place to get free sound effects I believe. I only ever used it once to get a sample of a cat meowing.

You could probably manage something on the scale of Weebl and Bob, but anything higher is probably a bit ambitious and might require a degree in animation.

Yeah but I fancy the challenge, my brain is just sitting at the moment going "doopy deep deep berpy hoop" and not a lot else

Also I'm working nights so probably not a lot of what I just wrote made sense

That's all I'm aiming for Grim, if not simpler.

The character is just there to show what the guy's doing - most of the emphasis will be on floating text and the spoken stuff. Very, very simple-looking stuff (for a simple brain like mine)

i never had much trouble with it, although details are fiddly as fuck.

you can actually pull off very nice 2d animations using 3d software, and the animating itself is a helluvaload easier (this doesnt hold true for blender as its just plain odd)

animating is about 5% fun 95% tediousness no matter how you do it really

Basic Flash principles are easy, but if you want to make anything of substance than think painting a piece of fine art using Paint.

Creatoon is a very simple flash-type program that is good for creating cartoons that's worth having a go at.

I can probably obtain you or make you some sounds wiggy, it's what I do. My sample library has it's own hard disc you see...

So yeah, give me an email when you need them, I'm sure I can find something.

Cheers mate.

This might have to happen next weekend now, real life seems to be conspiring against me at the moment.
