Presumably you can only access the new races with the expansion pack though? Otherwise it'd render the expansion pointless.

yep, new races are expansion only, as are the new zones and (i think) the level 81-85 stuff.
New race/class combos are open to all though. I may be making a troll druid, if only for the pink mohawked bear.

Shattering is tomorrow, that's the whole dragon popping out of the ground and all the low level content becoming less shit part of it. The expansion, with the new trade skill, new areas, new races etc goes live on the 7th.

I'm sure I'm misunderstanding somewhere, but I mean I need to re-enable my game account. Unless they quietly took up the F2P model.

He just means that all game updates come before you ever need to log in. So download the patch now, then resub when you can actually play.
