Ragnarok Online (BukakkeRO)
Mr. Joose is planning a very fancy web game, and that got me thinking.
There was a little game I played a while back called Ragnarok Online. Now I'm sure a few of you will have heard of it. It's an MMO that requires a monthy subscription, and gives you access to a HUEG 3D world filled with 2D character sprites. Camera fully rotatable and tiltable. It's all very nice, PVP areas, cities to stay in and literally hundreds of different monsters.
BUT. I found not long after playing it that there are free "independant" servers around. People can actually host the game on their own servers, restrict the player limit, and generally have a play around with their mates. Customising the game, items, areas and classes as much as they want. In theory it's fantastic, if not for the server running costs.
It's very fancy, lots of quests, lots of areas.
BUT. It's difficult to set up. We need a codemonkey to sort out the mysql goo in the brains of the game, we need a decent server that'll provide patches and updates, and enough room for 20/30 5punkers to play on. There were also a lot of patches required, but it looks like the English version has at last caught up with the original Korean version, which offers a lot more diversity and advanced options, so we won't need to patch as much.. I believe.
So, is anyone interested in getting it off the ground? Furthermore, is anyone interested in playing? Could be a good laugh, and it's all free of charge, if we can get it set up.

According to my man in the know, who's been AFK for about a week straight,
all of the setup information can be found at eAthena, on the Forums.
As far as I can see, all the fancy downloads we need (Kro, Sak and SVN) can be found Here.
We need:
eAthena svn Latest download 4510
KRO and Sakray fully updated
Then read the tutorial on how to set up an SQL Server
This is a good topic with lots of important things on it.
Server requirements are here
There are a lot of tutorials here on installing and setting up a server, adding NPC's, connecting etc.
There's a big thread here telling you how to start-up, creating a server and then a client for people to join the server on
Lordy lord, more link, guides etc. Something about using a router too.
It's very consuming and overwhelming, and if anyone can help me trawl through it to get everything started up, and find threads that actually tell me/us/whoever to sit it all up, I'd very much appreciate it.
