A hacker has been proved to be the fastest and most reliable way of getting information. I could try to blag them I suppose, or I could try my contacts, but I don't think I know anyone who could help. I'll put out feelers anyway, maybe my cop or gang contacts might have heard something.

I don't bring much to the table with contacts but I can ask my gun runner mate to see if he's got a friend in docwagon or has heard anything in his frequent unannounced stops at the waterfront.

I think ive said this before, but just in case: Hackers are very good at getting "hard" facts. A guys financial records, or the fact that he has been working for corp x for 3 years, that kind of thing. Hackers are not good at getting "soft" facts. Rumours, gossip, word-on-the-street kind of information (unless you are talking soft facts about the matrix, obviously). In most situations, you want a hefty dollop of both kinds of information.

Anyway, ive just got in from one night out, and im about to head off to londinium for another, so I shall put up what you all get with your asking around tomorrow, as well as work out a way of using the hire-a-hacker rules with N-Zo.

EDIT: oh, and yes I did Roman, but I need to prod you about it to clarify some stuff. You around tomorrow at all?

Well, N-zo has said what he wants to join in on this run, so until he's offered a wage, he isn't in.

Should you want to contact him, I shall reply.

All running is Freelance ;)

And if you call otherwise, it'll be a consultancy.

I think that's what they were getting at, having Al throw some money at N-Zo for a little data-gathering.

I've found the bit on hiring a hacker, btw. Details are on page 93 of Unwired, price listing is on page 201.

Having said that, there isn't really a price listed for going in to the DocWagon records and finding specific information. However, I would say its a bit like a combo of "hacking a passcode" and "tracing a datatrail", so I would add those up to give you a rough guide price, ie: 600 * Hacking Skill. That's not set in stone, that's just what would be there on average. If you want to haggle the price, go for it. No rolls though, just roleplay it.

As for the other info you find:

Franks Gun Runner hasn't heard anything specific. There has been an increase in his business recently, especially amongst the mid level gangs. He doesn't think that's to do with Bugs though.

Al, your cop contact tells you that there has been an increase in the number of missing persons reported in the last 3-4 weeks, especially in and around the southern end of the Barrens. They have been mostly street bums and other SINless types though, so it hasn't gathered a lot of official attention. Your gang contact says that everyone is acting a bit squirrelly at the moment, gang wise, but its mostly due to some powershifts and political stuff that looks like its due to kick off any time now.

Shall we get a quote from a hacker, and then get a quote from N-zo, see who's cheaper, and get this show on the road?

I'm making enquiries with my contacts to see if I can find any leads. I have other options after that, but it's probably easier to get a hacker to do it. I thought N-Zo's quote was 'no'.

N-zo was no for the run without pay.

You can still call him to check data however, mobile communication being the marvel that it is.

I think take the info from N-zo. As he's looking to work with us in future he'll be less likely to run an agenda behind it for self profit that scews us in the process.

I always thought we were paying him. Didn't I ask for a quote about three pages ago?

This run is confusing and we've not even started yet.
